Shorter version of 3870X2

Weight wise i think the 2900xt is actually not that much lighter than the x2 due to tis hsf being totaly copper, x2 has 1 copper sink and 1 aluminium sink.

4 screen support out of the box, sweet as hell, also games running on these scale across multiple screens rather easily unlike nvidia sli,

Interesting, looking forward to seeing how this does, will be interesting if it works out far better than the reference design...

I'd reather have a small card tbh, cards are way too tall these days can hardly fit my 8800GTS in.
Not gona waste money on a new big case...

I wonder when this is gonna be released? I'd much rather have one of these than a "reference" 3870X2, it looks like this could even possibly shorter than a 2900!and just a bit longer than a 3870, roughly working it out, it looks like the PCB is 240mm by 120mm

What worries me is that the pci-e bridge chip on the stock ATI card actually comes into contact with the heatsink (giving me the assumption that it would need some form of cooling) yet on this powercolor card it doesn't appear to be cooled at all.

Another worry is that the box shows the zerotherm cooler still lol

EDIT: Just noticed the link states that it doesn't need cooling?!

Also it seems VERY wide (like X1950pro dual wide)

I think "very wide" is just an illusion, it's no way near as wide as the 1950 Pro Dual, it looks about 10mm wider than a 2900 (using my 2900 as a reference and the photo of that shorter X2 to work out its rough dimensions) :)

Look at the bottom image. It looks a good inch wider than the backing plate.

Having the card extra wide isn't a problem I don't think. I think near enough anyone would happily have a wider card if it lost a few cm in length.

I stand corrected :p from the bottom image, looks like the card is about 150mm wide

That's my thinking too, there's loads of space for a wider card in my case, but a normal 3870X2 might not fit properly becuase i have all of my SATA ports filled on my P5K Deluxe, normal X2 looks like it would block them off

Well I definitely wouldn't want a card that produces as much heat as this one dumping hot air inside my case, even if I did have really good air flow.

It seems inevitable to me that it will increase the ambient temp inside the case and therefore make it more difficult for other components to dissipate heat.

Years ago when the arctic coolers first appeared I fitted one to a card that had previously been running a simple fan and heatsink and it made not only the gpu run cooler but the cpu and mobo too, by a significant margin. It's a no-brainer I reckon! ;)

Yeah its not quite a realistic take on the noise is it?!

Well this is precisely what I was looking to see from manufacturers, a bit of skill and technique to give use a better cooling solution :) I like both takes on the alternative cooling! The shorter PCB on the Powercolour is great news for people using smaller cases and the 2xPCI-E 6Pin connections is great too!

mic held 2 cm from board, why don't these sites use the standard 1m dagnamit!!

exactly, 2cm in an open rig is nowere near the noise you'ld get in an enclosure 1m away.

it gives you a comparison, however noise is subjective, lower Dba high freq noise is more "irritating" than louder but lower freq noises, likewise constant drone is easier than variable noise.

Furthermore, some people are more "sensitive" to noise than others, or pick up specific frequencies more strongly.
