I was going to order a Evga ultra but the price has gone up since yesterday,

so i bought the bfg one less clock speed but only two options now.

is there a shortage?

Yeah just gone EOL now the Ultras, not many places do em anymore as they are over a year old, still cracking cards, they've been the fastest cards on the planet for over a year, and the X2 is hardly slaughtering it, actually gets beat in quite a few off the Ultra, and the X2 is 2x cards in one. :)

I have a different view. If I had the option to buy a GTX, Ultra or X2 3870 then it would be the X2 card no doubt. The X2 wasn't out when I bought this GTX so I can't be bothered selling and upgrading as it's not a great deal better but it's still better. Fastest card out the X2 is and retains the crown for top spot.

As I said above though, no point in selling a GTX or Ultra to move up unless you are a bencher as the performance gain won't merit the hassle IMO. My GTX runs pretty much everything great (except Crysis but I'm not alone on that one) so the Ultra will just be that little bit quicker. I can pull up to the Ultra with overclocking but as soon as you overclock I can only look on as the Ultra pulls away.

So fastest card out or the second best?. What's your move?. If Nvidia bring anything top end out then it's going to affect the Ultra's resale value whilst the X2 is a brand new product and the EOL won't happen any time soon I think. No matter what though the resale value of the X2 will last longer.

Ultra is not a year old or over a year old, its around 7-8 months old tops.

That maybe true with crossfire profiled games, but the support for crossfire when I was running dual X1900's was abysmal,so many games I tried showed no benefit,I just hope for the sake of the 3870X2 buyers this has improved.

GTX or Ultra would be my choice if I was buying now, especially considering GTX's can be had for around the £200 mark or below if you shop around.
