Libraries. Same concept as you recommened, except free if the book is in stock. Ussually costs only 50p for them to despatch a book you want from a anouther library.

75p to send an email. When the whole friggin' system is computerised anyway, and you could rig it to send the email automatically as soon as the book is scanned back in...
