And you thought PC piracy was bad...

true but there is not that much different security in pc games, and most are cracked already, I would say every PC game is cracked within days of release, and often before release. Only thing as said is for online play, but I imagine most pirates don't care for that or play on cracked servers too LOL

yes but the difference is try comparing these two instructions (imagine they are to a complete tech noob, a parent if you will)

"copy a cracked EXE from the DOOMED-dcd_HAXxxoR folder over the install EXE while renaming the original as orig.bak"

to

"put disc in console"

and you tell me which will have the higher percentage of pirated material

90% is complete BS. The majority of the DS owners I know (and I know a lot) didn't even know it was possible to play pirated DS games.

Statistics are crap, it all depends on the type of person you ask. If you ask a lot of "hardcore" gamers then your more likely to find people who use pirated software, but if you ask a more diverse range of gamers I think you'll find much more accurate results.

Statistics can be used to prove anything you like, so long as your clever about the people you poll.

I agree with you 90%

My mum has one my 2 nieces have one (I don't know any guys who have one)
I'll ask them tonight have they chipped their DS with a R4 chip.

Yeah that's a good point and of course actually installing downloaded PC games can be a ***** to those not in the know, not everybody knows you can use Daemon Tools instead of having to burn the ISO's to discs...etc

I doubt anyone with PC knowledge would find it hard to copy a file, plus you have to burn the ISO for console games just the same, I would say piracy is more rife on PC, look at Crysis and how much they lost from piracy. Compare to Halo 3 for instance

How do you quantify how much they lost from piracy? There is no way of knowing how many pirated copies are acutally being used and what percentage of them would have bought the game. I have pirated games that i had intention of ever buying even if it was £5.

Well I am sure they said 5000 copies per hour were being downloaded, you can't justify stealing by saying oh I would never buy it anyway.

I think it's less about the game being on pirate, and more about it being release on pirate about a WEEK early.

Anyone who was built up and excited about the game, would have jumped at the chance to download it. So i can estimate the people owning the pirate version would be stupidly large

And obviously, only then will certain members of that crowd go out and buy the original. Once they play it in all it's over hyped glory. :p

I think the up to 90% is true.
For example, a DS owner may have 2-5 DS games, whilst a DS owner who like spirated games may have 1000s of them. I have seen on many websites downloads called DS pack 1 with 100s of games in.

Thus making 90% of owned games illegal:)

No I never, go read the comment above mine, then my reply, I said you have to burn the ISO for console games, so it would be no harder than buring a ISO for a PC game which the person above me was trying to say PC piracy is harder due to people burning ISO's instead of using a virtual drive.

Well I am sure they said 5000 copies per hour were being downloaded, you can't justify stealing by saying oh I would never buy it anyway.

FACT: it is impossible to know how many copies of a game have been downloaded.

also, how many of those people bought it any?

I'm saying it's an excuse, just that how many times a game was pirated or 'stolen' != how many more copies the game would have sold.

Well they gave some figures of how much it was being pirated, so thats all the facts we have to go with, so you do not think that is a lot, plus the fact they have not broke even on the game suggests it was more pirated than bought and that most who downloaded it did not buy it.
