Anyone got this setup Q6600/ABit IP35/4GB Crucial B/Tracer PC2-8500C5

Hi Guy's

I'm looking to grab a quick rig with the following;

I have a couple of questions, one on the MB/RAM and the other on cooling!

First off has anyone had any issues with setting up the CPU/RAM on the ABit IP35 board with the Crucial B/Tracer PC2-8500C5?
I really struggled to setup my current PC when I built it around a year ago (Look at my sig for present config). I had major issues setting the correct timings for the RAM resulting in under clock and just managed to get the standard core speed from the CPU!

See thread

Second, If I go for the LianLi case do you think I will have an issue with the temperature? I plan to remove the HD cage to fit the 8800GTX in and move the HD up into one of the DVD bays or would I be better off going for a full tower?

Thanks in advance for any help

Why don't you get a GTS? They are as quick, sometimes quicker! If you want a GTX at least buy a cheap one :D

You really don't need 750W ... The 620W will do you fine. Apart from that everything looks hunky dory.

Or grab a HD3870X2 for the same price, so so much faster!!

In the same light as Ezy's comments Corsair's TX psu's have some monster power handling on the 12v rail but the HX range are more than up to the task, plus their modular and tbh good modular psus kick ass!

Some good advice there guy’s, thanks, not really up with the Graphics cards ATM (what GTS card would you recommend).

I chose that PSU because I have a corsair-650 at present in my main PC and it’s been very good. I like the fact that you only have to use the cables you need and the rest stay in the box till you need them (went for the 750 as it’s only about £15 more).

I was also hoping for some advice on the MB/RAM, do I need to get 4Gig (it’s so cheap ATM) and are has anyone had any issues setting the timings or CPU multiplier?

I think you’re getting your psu's confused, the TX650 and TX750 are non modular (cannot remove cables) the one in your sig is modular. The TX750 is the daddy power wise, but a pain with all its cables and non modular design.

Go for the cheapest 8800GTS, or even an 8800GT, both are similar cards but the GTS's tends to overclock like a nutter, well mine did anyway.

If you have money to burn, grab a HD3870X2 but the real world difference will be very slim an imo not worth the extra 80 or so quid extra.

Your ram selection and mb are spot on.

Are you planning on overclocking xreyhead?

On the subject of the Ram, It's better to get 2x2Gig sticks of Ram than 4x1 gig sticks. I've heard people grumble about 4x1 sticks because they require more voltage if you want to overclock. Also a better upgrade path in the future.

Also, the ABit IP35 can be a bit picky about RAM votlages. Make sure you've got Ram that can run at voltages lower down in the range (1.8v/1.9v) - even if it automattically underclocks.

I also echo the comments about picking the HX620. Great PSU.

Why not purchase a Corsair HX520 and switch it for your HX620 in your current C2D system and then run the HX620 in your new C2Q rig. perfect setup for both rigs and you save some money at the same time!
Well thats what I would do anyway.

Thanks for the advice, that makes sense really. All I did was pick the bundle on the site and add more RAM! I'll have to have a look through the forum and see if anyone is having problems.

Agree, this would make sense! Think I will go for the coolmaster though as I fancy a change and its a tad cheaper.
