I just bought a laptop from Dell but annoyingly they only send to your registered address (rubbish if you're a student!) so I'm looking for a cheap courier that will deliver a laptop in the UK. The insurance has to be over £600, and with that option Parcel force want about £40!

Thanks

Many couriers will not offer cover on laptops, because they are high value. small, and easily stolen.

Royal Mail Special Delivery I have allways found to be good would cost approx £20

That's the problem i'm having, the ones I've looked at so far have all said no laptops, just goes to show even they don't trust their own staff. :D

As for Citylink I was just on their site but can't work out how you set up a delivery if you are not a company, maybe i'm just stupid.:o:p

Hmm i forgot about standard royal mail, they are usually cheaper than the rest, i'll go have a look now.:)

Are you sure thats the case? One of my flat mates got his Dell PC (:() delivered to the halls.

Hmm I may ring them up if that's the case, on their website (where I ordered) they stated in no uncertain terms all through the order process that they would only deliver to a card registered address.

Don't suppose you could ask him how he did it?

No, I asked Nationwide if I could add a secondary address to my account but they said they couldn't do that, only one address.

It's a bit annoying TBH as there are quite a few websites like this, and as more and more people are buying online now I would assume more people have problems with it. Then again I suppose most people, other than students, live at the address their card is registered to.

If using RMSD make sure you tell them what value the laptop is and they'll calculate the charge based on that and the weight.

Ah yeah, I forgot that, so it'll actually be less than £20 as it only weighs about 4kg. That sounds even more of a reasonable price.:)

Most students I know have their statement address set as their term-time address unless they live close enough to pick stuff up from home. It's not exactly difficult to change your address with the bank.

I'm with Halifax and I just change my address whenever I come up to uni. Takes 5 minutes, just pop into the local branch, ask to change my address, tell them the address and its sorted :/

I'd prefer to leave my statement address and main address as my home address (not uni) so that's not really an option for me, although I didn't realise it was as easy as that to change.

But just out of interest did you need to take any statements or some kind of communication from the bank to change it?

I do everything online, including statements, so those aren't a problem for me. I think all I took was the debit card for the account. I had my driving license, but don't remember being asked for anything like that.
