One of the main arguments why it's better to buy a console is how much gaming power you get for your money. You'll often here how you need a £2000 PC if you want to play games on PC to look as good as games on the 360 or PS3. I'm pretty sure if you where wise with your money you could build a PC that would pretty much out do them for less than £700. I thought this would be intresting because like I say people expect a gaming PC to cost them the earth.

I herd the 360's and PS3's gpu is about has advanced has a beefed up 1900 xtx or 7800GT.

Seen has a PS3 or 360 don't come with speakers or a HDTV its best to spec just the base unit and keyboard and mouse.

Gigabyte GZ-X1 Silver Midi Case No PSU = £29.36
OcUK Huntkey 550W PSU = £41.11
Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L Intel P31 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard = £52.86
Gainward BLISS GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail = £158.61
Intel Core 2 Duo E2160 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.80GHz (800FSB) - Retail = £48.16 (People have been clocking these to 3Ghz+ on air)
Corsair 2GB DDR2 Value Select PC2-5300C5 Dual Channel Kit (2x1GB) = £30.54
Hitachi Deskstar 7K160 160GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM (0Y30006) = £31.71
LiteON DH-16D2P-02C 16x DVD-ROM (Black) - OEM = £10.56
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic 64-Bit Edition DVD - OEM = £56.39

Logitech PS/2 Optical Wheel Mouse White - OEM = £4.69
Logitech Deluxe Keyboard (White) - OEM = £6.45

Total = £470.44

I picked a Gigabyte mobo has I've always found them best value for a board that can overclock the CPU extremely well.

Can you guys beat this price give it ago. :D

Why bother? This has been done many times and its impossible to compare a console architecture with a pc, especially when you look at the cell processor.

Yeah that PC wouldnt run a 360 game at all well... or at all in general. The 360 has a triple custom built processor each hyper-threaded.

The world will never run out of naive people :)

/edit for above - Not the 360 version it couldnt

But the PC versions are more advanced take Gears Of War with better textures, effects and res.

I'm pretty sure an 8800GT makes a mockery of the GPUS in the current gen consoles.

except console games are much more optimised for that specific hardware, PC games can never be like that, too much variation in the hardware

Edit: heres a way to describe whats going on, the console is a lotus exige, not very powerful HP wise but agile and good cornering, the PC is more like a 500BHP shelby mustang, fast as hell in a straight line but can't do **** in the corners, so even though consoles have less power its used FAR more efficiently being the moral of the story

I don't understand where you going with that analagy, it doesn't seem to link to anything.

But they look better so who cares, the 1800XT (360 gpu) has no where near the gpu power of an 8800GT, wich is twice as fast. Nor do consoles have a lot of RAM wich allows for bigger textures etc.
True consoles use cpu power much more efficiently and usually end up with games coded to make much more efficient use of the cpu, but that's where it end's, pc's have far superior specs.

Compare the same games that are out on pc and console, compare @ wich price the game looks better on pc...

Are you joking?
Games do not need cpu power at all...
A pc runs games like GoW much better than a console.

If you'd install crysis on a 360 ( hypothetical ) it'd crawl @ 10 fps where the pc would do 30 fps even if optimized, the puny gpu in the consoles has no where near the gpu power to process the gfx as they are on pc...

Besides, the pc would anhialate any console when @ big res, triple sli 8800ultra will run 2560x1920 much faster than a console, and it'll look a lot better.

The consoles have and will always have a very poor gfx card, an nvidia 7900gs (g71) and an ati Xenos are just plain old and have no where near the power pc GPU's have.

Well pc is, pc can emulate everything upto ps2's, pc's can dl pron, use p2p, download from newsgroups, ectetc.
Console is just for gaming and perhaps a media machine, but they will never run so many games or do anything better than a pc does.

but thats just not true, there are many good games available on consoles that aren't on PC and many good games on PC that aren't available on PCs. Sure PCs by their nature are better in terms of the amount of things you can do with them, but they also cost more. Neither reigns utterly supreme, both have their uses.
