just arrived..my personal review of 3870x2

Who are you trying to convince, me or you? I'm not sure anymore.

Anyway, I’ve explained my point of view and I understand yours, where not going to agree so theres nowhere else this discussion can go.

I was going to say we are just going to have to agree to disagree no point, I mean I think I get the point, basically you think its stupid people switching hardware so often and they should read a reviews and stop buying hardware so often.

another one to notch on the 3870x2's belt

just tried out the witcher and is running far better than it did on my GTS

getting 20 very minimum, but normally 40-60fps @ 1900x1200 4xAA, 16xAF :)

great, Mark.

brings a smile to me face :) - not my cup of tea (just sold the game and about to post off) - but amazing visuals

I'm finding this card a serious boost from my 8800GT.

Before I was playing WoW 4xAA 16xAF.

Now it's 16xAA and 16xAF, smooth as silk, and looks utterly brilliant. :D

I've got a couple of friends who swear blind that the 8800GT is faster than the HD3870X2, and not just faster but "blitzs it"... as such they've been ribbing me about "spending £100 more on an inferior card".

Without getting into a huge ATI vs Nvidia war (if thats even possible) can anyone shed any light on this? Is it correct?

For what it's worth I could care less which manufacturer made a piece of hardware in my PC, I just buy whatever I believe to be the best bit of kit for my particular circumstances at any given time, so I have no loyalties or hidden agenda or whatever either way...

It's only true in games that lack Crossfire support.

The rest of the time the 3870X2 beats the GT at everything. Sounds like your friends don't have much of a clue what they're talking about.

You also need to update your sig. ;)

Have you tried CoD4 by any chance? I would like to know how it runs, think I'm going to place an order. :)

hey, can anyone post a link where I could find the 8-pin power cable needed for this card?

Never got one in the box :S there is a 6 pin connector and 8 pin connector on card, yet I was only given two six pins

If he doesn't use CCC and chooses Rivatuner/amd gpu tool/att then he won't need the 8 pin. Only CCC needs it to unlock the overclocking options.

If you can find some evidence of an 8 pin connector making the card more stable or hav a better overclock then I will change the current advice :)

But CCC is the easiest to use & guaranteed to work & not corrupt your drivers & be compatible with PunkBuster.

I run COD4 at 1680 x 1050. Had the 8800 GT and couldnt play smoothly with AA etc up to max. Just got the 3870X2 and I can crank all the settings to max inc V Sync and dont notice any slowdown. V smooth. Dont listen to all the bull. This card is much faster than a single 8800GT as long as the driver supports the game.

Not just yet, but watch this space. :)

CoD4 ran smoothly 8xAA 16xAF on my 8800GT anyway, so i'd expect it to run really well on the X2. Probably 16xAA, but i'll have to try it to confirm that.
