XBox Live: Can I only enable voice chat for my friends?

Sick to death of the yanks, french and kiddies talking absolute **** through Xbox Live. I only used my headset when playing with my friends. Can I change an option to only hear and talk to people on my friends list?

Can't seem to find this anywhere.

Yes you can but not quite sure how to do it again, sure it is in the privacy settings, probably in account settings or management.

-Go to dashboard
-Select your Gamertag
-Select Edit Profile
-Select Privacy settings

Then there should be an option there to change it.

I was wondering how to do this, everytime I go into matchmaking on Halo 3, I just hit the mute button over every player except the ones in my party - this should make it much easier

Halo 3 has its own settings in the options to hear party only I am sure
