Doesn't need to be PCI-E 2.0 slots, as the 3870x2's are not PCI-E 2.0. 
Any board that has got 2 PCI-E 16x lanes

Its only a question of Drivers the 8.1's dont support Crossfire X
Now i have a set of drivers here that just might and i have a par of Asus X2's on route so hopefully, with everything crossed, I may be able to let you know tomorrow afternoon.
It is a longshot that the drivers will work though.
Nice one! It would be nice if there was a comparison between DUAL 3870XTs and ONE 3870X2

There is no quad crossfire driver available yet, last date i heard for it was march.
So you going to run in this an sli motherboard ?
Is it possible to crossfore on a sli board, like the 680i?
it doesnt need 2 16x lanes, only a board that supports crossfire

Well the sites that have run crossfireX are using drivers 8.451.2
The leaked drivers i downloaded have the same version...
0801240900-8.451.2-080123a-058516E-ATI
As my X2's dont arrive till tomorrow, obviously i cant be sure... but i have my X1300 sat in Windows displaying that its running driver version...
