Are these REALLY this cheap now?

Over 12,000 miles a year? I wouldn't call that average...

depends

its about average for a daily driver. But when buying a car like the P1, its not what you want. The P1 is the pinacle of the classic subarus, the point at which they realised the current platform could go no further. It didnt have the water spray intercooler that the STIs had, because they couldnt fit it under bonnnet as well as ABS. So they chose ABS. It's very tight in there, and that combined with their tendancy to go boom unless meticulously looked after or rebuilt, means they are a troublesome purchase.

Turbo 2000's etc sure, but P1's?

I looked at Scoobs just before I got the 5 and £6-7k got an MY99 Turbo 2000, nowhere near a P1 :p

I distinctly remember reading TG in 2001 and Imprezas were a "performance bargain" with an N-reg typically at ~£6k. Can't recall if the P1 was mentioned.

6-7k would have got you a nice import STI. Trouble is, pre 2002 there are no official UK cars with 300bhp apart from the P1

The high purchase price of the Bug Eye and Blob eye meant the P1 was very attractive. Trouble is now, Bug Eye STis are around the 10k mark, and Blob Eye STIs entering at about 12k. 13k gets you a nice 2003 STI type uk. And the PPP that takes it to 305bhp doesnt command much of a premium in the second hand market

With cars like that going for 13k, the P1 that was once around 11k, is no longer so desirable being the old shape, having the image it does, having a reputation to go boom etc.. is no longer as desirable, and thus 2nd hand values have gone down.

They are that cheap now, it's why the Impreza is the new Orion Ghia, every chav wants one, and far too many can now afford them...

Not to mention the P1's reputation for reliability is more french than japanese.

All I'm saying is that I will either purchase a P1 or Type R WRC Limited in the near future.

Set up properly not much will touch either.

The P1 was just a JDM STI ver-5 with some Prodrive parts, but apparently Prodrive didn't change the ecu map for UK fuel (they just added some octane boosting 'broquets' to the fuel tank), and that is the main reason blamed for the engine failures, people run it on normal unleaded, it dets it's nuts off and melts a piston.

I would be happier with the reliablity of that one more than I would a standard P1, because it has been tuned by one of the UK's best Subaru tuners, and you can be sure that it has been mapped properly.

90k is nothing on a healthy Scooby, mine has 115k on it when I got rid of it, and depite the fact that it was running nearly 350bhp on those stock 115k internals and lived in the redline daily, it never missed a beat......

It's time to bin the crappy Honda's and get a P1 Drex :D

Heres my quotes from gocompare, I'm 33 and live in snoozeville.

Its actually very annoying for me. Its only down the road from me (well 2 hours away but everything is hours away where I live) and its been very well looked after. It just won't sell and I am on a mission to clear all my debt before I buy another Impreza.

Personally, I'd rather wait until a P1 is bang on 10 years old. I can put it on classic insurance to keep costs down and it would only be for weekends and summertime so a 6K mile a year limit would be more than enough. If I were buying a daily I'd get a Prodrive bugeye STI. Prefer them to blobs and they are a bargain.

Its been mapped for a while so shouldn't let go any time soon. Theres a couple very near to me but they've all got issues. One is back and for to the garage it was boguht from nearly every month. Bloomin glad I never bought it.

Or we could just go back to posting uber cool performance stuff nobody had noticed had suddenly got stupidly cheap :p

So it's ok for you to rampage off topic but nobody else? It's cheap- that's great. Guess it's cheap because it's getting "old", there are plenty of newer ones about and it's not got the best image. Did you get an insurance quote in the end?

EDIT: Although i think that Monaro is awesome.....i just don't think i could ever get over the fact i'd spent 14k on a Vauxhall. :(
