I just bought a pair of Oakley Flak Jackets with some Black Iridium Polarized lenses. The reason for chosing the polarized black lens is mainly for reducing glare which should be useful with photography and on very sunny days at the beach, etc.

I do however need an everyday lens. I don't have the glasses yet, but I am guessing the polarized lens will not be ideal for everyday use.

What do you think is the best everyday lens for these glasses?

The following lenses are available;

Black Iridium
Persimmon
Clear
Ice Iridium
VR28 Black Iridium
G30 Black Iridium
G30
VR28
Gold Iridium
G20 Black Iridium
Polarised Bronze
Gold Iridium Polarised
Fire Iridium Polarised
Ice Iridium Polarised

I hope you don't mind this semi thread hijack but it seemed sensible to put it here.

Has anyone sent frames to Oakley to get repaired? My mate sat on my A-Wires as I'd left them on the passenger seat of my car :(

The polarized lenses are fine for everyday use. I've got two pairs of Juliets, one with black iridium and the other with an exclusive light red iridium which are perfect for light refraction but not so good for the full glare of the sun. I wear the black pair most times and the red only when I feel like a change.

I didnt try with my fives when they broke but i had heard they are really good with frames. As long as your lenses are Ok, the frames are cheap as chips.

No problem :)

Ah, that's good news. Maybe they will be OK then, I guess I will wait and see, I should get them on Wednesday hopefully.

Oakley are a very slick, professional operation. Pop into your local dealer and have a chat. I've never done it myself but I know people that have and I don't recall any problems.

I dont even think there is much wrong with them - they just tend to fall off my head as if they are setup for somebody with a bigger head now, if that makes any sense :p

They won't charge you much to change the frames if the lenses are fine as said above. New lenses only come in pairs though, cost me £90 for a new set of polariseds for my A-Wires. Lucky it was done through insurance so it only cost me £25.

When I sent them back a second time because one of the arms became limp, I got a phone call saying that the coating was coming off my lenses and that they would replace them, I ended up getting new frames too! :D

@OP: I use my polarised all the time, you get used to them and using normal lenses after seems strange.

Bend 'em back yourself :p I've got loads of pairs (friend runs a dealership) and I always bend the frames so they fit my head just right. As long as you don't treat them like a coat-hanger I dare say you'll be OK (don't break them and blame me though please :) )

For the life of me I can't think which lenses I went for with my prescription Oakley's but I 'think' they are Black Iridium. Does these have the silver mirror finish - this is what I have.

Overall I have no qualms with the lenses or the frames, didn't bother with the anti-reflective coating you can have put in to prevent being dazed by water and havn't noticed a problem so far.

Fox - if my frames or lenses go wrong I have just been instructued by the optician I bought them from to take them back to them and they will then get in touch with Oakley for me.

I have 2 pairs depending on if its sunny or just bright ,think its abit of a con you pay almost double the price for polarised also the "oakley" on the nose bridge rubs of within months ,I did get a new pair when complained but they did the same !
Your best bet is to try them in the shops ,my polarised are a bit dark for winter !

When I needed to get my t-wires mended I was told that they werent doing my model anymore so I could either keep them or trade them in for a new pair at half price (which I did).

Never had any problem sending mine back either. Had a pair of new frames for one pair and an entire new pair of the others, all for free. Mat - you got done there pal!

I have an old pair of Oakleys, the arm just snapped off one side, is there an official place online that do repairs/replacements? or a store locator or something? Cant find a UK site for them only usa/australia.

Im looking at getting a pair of pescription Oakleys got serveral pairs of normal but with pescription can leave in car and dont have to bother with contacts all time. Where did you get yours from? and are they worth it because it looks like its going to set me back £400 min with the pescription lens
