Hi there,

Which antivirus has the best cpu usage to performance ratio which is free?

Last time i checked, AVG was second with AVAST being the front runner....still the case?

Are there any recent virus testing results which show which is best? Does Kaspersky have the same sort of cpu usage as avg, avast and the free ones? - I remember kaspersky being the daddy of the paid software...

Thanks.

the chances of avg finding a virus are the same chances i've got of winning the lottery

and i don't buy lottery tickets :p

Lol....its all down to how you use the pc tbh. A internet-wise person can avoid getting a virus without having an antivirus software installed by just using his/her common sense......

....however, I will not be the one using the pc, its for a low powered family pc....

I still use Avast and never had any problems.

However, the best at the moment is Kaspersky, although not free it's supposed to be pretty good. PC Pro rated a few months back the top AV.

Going to try the trial for kaspersky now.

I am in the installation process, is there anything i shouldn't install (something that could be bloatware etc...).

Thanks.

i know, i don't run any AV :)

but when i fix other people's pc's a lot of them have avg on there and nod32/kasp find tons that avg can't detect

AVG is an anti-virus in the same sense that a sheet of wet toilet paper is a shield against bullets.

Go with kaspersky you wont be dissapointed.

I have kaspersky, but was wondering if i have to buy another licence.

I had it installed on my last pc but i have upgraded pcs now and the other one has gone "offline", does it take computer information when validating, or should i be ok

best free AV .. is the user :). No AV can stop that person that likes to click the download and run on that mail from there grandma saying check my new web site out click here !!!! and they do...

You'll be ok mate as long as it's only used on one pc. I gather you have a single licence? I've just made a complete new rig and just entered my licence key, works just fine :)

Kaspersky have a special offer going at the moment which means you can get a years worth of 'Kaspersky Internet Security Suite Version 7.0' for £10.74
Or a years worth of the Basic 'Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0' for £7.14

http://www.kaspersky.co.uk/store
Kaspersky are running a 50% off promotion until 11th Feb, but if you use the voucher code WHSMITH at the checkout you can get 50% off the discounted price. So, for example:

Internet security suite 7.0 usual price £36.12. Kaspersky's 50% deal makes it £18.06. WHSmith promo 50% off brings it down to £9.03 for a one-year licence. Please note that sales tax is added to final purchase price.

Personally I think Symantec (aka Nortons) have the most comprehensive virus def database closely followed by both NOD32 and Kaspersky.
I use Symantec AntiVirus Corporate.v9.0.2.1000 Final which imho is the daddy of AV :D:D

Think Antivir was the best free one in the last round of detection tests?

I'm using it after a few recommendations on here.

Great AV, it found some malware of some kind when i changed over from AVG.

Nice program apart from the advertisements which actually don't bother me that much.
