Far far away....
We have just had the bins emptied where we live. To the rear of our houses there is a secure gated car park and a small building where the bins are stored. People in the house have there own bins, people in the apartments have the large green commercial bins.

As saw the bin men coming i went out and took my bin, the gates that give access to the car park have had the code changed so I opened the gates for the in men.

So far so good, nothing unusual I hear you say.

Now one of the big green commercial bins was very full, to the point where the lid wouldn't close.

Now it gets funny, the bin man takes the extra bin bags ans throws them on the floor, and puts the bin on the back of the truck to be emptied.

As they get ready to go I notice 3 maybe 4 bin bags on the floor, the ones removed from the big bin. I ask the bin men if they are going to put the in the bin lorry, the reply I got was:

"Sorry mate we can't handle bin bags, they have to be in the bin"

Now I admitted that the bin lid should be closed but pointed out that one of the bin men did exactly what he just said they weren't aloud to do!!

They now point blank refuse to put the bags in the bin lorry so we have 3 steaming bin bags left behind.

At this point I just picked up the bags, lobbed them in the back of them bin lorry, cue "Oi what yer doin'" and the like.

Now one of the guys went to take them out of the bin truck, at which point I reminded him that "Sorry mate your not allowed to handle bin bags" and kindly informed him that I have my phone in my pocket and if he breaks his own rules I am going to film him doing so and report him.

It gets serious at the point, the driver jumps out and asks what is going on, I explain and he starts spouting on about rules are rules, at which point I point out that the rules have already been broken so why not just chalk this one down to experience and be done with it.

We are getting no where at this point, so I took out my phone and called the local council and asked to speak to the refuse department, "Woah hold on mate, there is no need for that" I reply "Well rules are rules mate, we can't have them broken can we now we"

The driver then rounds up his crew, tell ms he is going me not to do it again and he would let me off this time !!!

The end result, common sense prevailed, home win, Slinwagh.

It's great how he said they can't handle bin bags but he is the one that removed the excess ones from your bin! Morons

Think you missed the point!

They had already handled the bags when it suited them.

Andy

EDIT: Beaten

Yeah i guess lol, but what I'm saying is that you shouldn't throw them on the back of the Lorry yourself. The bin men get told what to do and thats if a bin is over full they can't take it, so he's covering his back.

But he had broken the very rules he was spouting off about !!

Did they not put the bin bags back into the green commercial bins? If I were a bin man thats what I would have done, and then next week hopefully it would no longer be over full. Leaving the bin bags on the floor is probably some kind offense for littering on private property is it not!

No he just left them on the floor, I don't think anyone would have had an issue with them at least going back in the bin!!

The application of common sense is obviously not a prerequisite of being a bin man where I live!

Yeah but think about it should really be throwing the bin bags on the back of the Lorry after he said he couldn't take them? The bins are there for a reason, the reason being to cut down on waste and landfill and increase and encourage recylcing. If he just threw the bags on nobody would have learned. I agree with your point that he went back on his words but really you are more in the wrong i think.

We don't get a weekly collection here, it's Bi weekly alternate collections. Week 1 is the usual rubbish bin and week 2 is bottles/cans bin and carboard bin. This gets to be a slight PITA when you've had a few mates over and cooked etc, bin gets full of the rubbish they won't recycle (all plastics, food waste and even some carboards) and is probably a health hazard in the summer, will find out after I spend a summer in the new place.

It's not really the bin mans fault, rather the council that makes the stupid rules about not picking up the bins if they're too full. Atleast your binmen removed the excess and emptied the bin, round here they won't touch it at all if your bin lid is not closed.
