Can someone in the Industry or in the 'know' please explain the structure of the employees

Like the chain of command?

Director being the top boy and maybe producer below him/her?

Greatly appreciate any help :D

Directors are in charge of the visuals and acting in a production.

Producers however are in charge of most of the crew and all of the money.

Generally Producers are in charge during pre-production and Directors are in charge on set.

Its not very often one or the other would pull rank on each other as the success of the production depends on the two of them getting on.

*Generally speaking of course

Director works closely with Cameramen, sound engineers, actors and pretty much everything to do with a 'scene'?

Producers manage finance, control the overall production of the film? Editors and researches are in this department?

Pretty much yeah, except you might find that the director will often 'pop in' on the editor to control the edit a little more on larger productions.

Cheers for the feedback Pirate! :)

Can anyone fill me on what a 'grip' is? They work with the sound engineers as far as i know :s

edit: Google define: worker who moves the camera around while a film or television show is being made

Its the grip persons job to 'grip' the camera to whatever surface is needed in order to get the shot the director wants. The back of a car for example.

I work as a Producer for an ad agency and recently had to to film an interactive quiz for a client. As producer, I had control over the project management, budget and resource management, and within this I had to source a film production company. They have their own producer whose job it was to source the actors, director, costumes, crew and studios.
This comprises of auditioning the actors for various roles, and choosing a Director - which was based on watching show reels from a selection of Directors to see who had the correct style to fit in with our brief.

Once the actors and directors were chosen, the TV production company producer books the studio, and ensures everyone is where they should be on the day, and that we have all the correct resources.

On the day of filming the TV producer is in control of the content, whereas the Director is in control of the actors, lighting, sound and cameramen, so the Producer and Director work fairly closely to ensure that they have every sequence required for the client.

As Producer for the ad-agency I was only required to be on set to make any executive decisions on behalf of the client, but apart from that it was my role to sit around and marvel at how long everything takes, how complex the lighting looks, and to eat all the complimentary food!

Don't forget Executive Producer - aka - "there's me money in it I deserve to be right there in opening credits innit"
