Why not go straight to a limited 125cc bike? Then de-restrict it after a year.

.
.You can't restrict the capacity of a bike, how would you possibly change the bore and stroke of it?.
Most 50's are likely to have been ragged to death everywhere by 16 year old chavs with no mechanical sympathy. You are on the right track with not spending too much and getting a 125 later, 50's are just a stop-gap to better things.
Then you can use it on CTB1, although I think you might have to be 17, or even 18 then. Why not go straight to a limited 125cc bike? Then de-restrict it after a year.
Leathers? I ride a ZX6 on occasion, I wear a long leather jacket, gloves and a helmet.
Sod wearing leathers, they look uncool and are seriously uncomfortable to walk around in i find.

Not really, I constantly get stuck behind cars and I havn't been beaten off the line yet either.

If I come off my bike it's my fault i got turned into red sludge grating accross the road. I still can't stand leathers. Most pathetic excuse for not wearing leathers....ever!

Because he's 16
I mean restrict it to under 35bhp/ton.Then you can use it on CTB1, although I think you might have to be 17, or even 18 then.

Much much cheaper. I paid £225 TPO (for a year) on my 125 at 17 with no previous experience and on the same day I passed my CBT.a tad ot, but what is the insurance difference between say a 1ltr car and say 125cc bike? Is bike cheaper or dearer?

The top half of my is protected pretty much anyway, it's a really nice thick leather coat. My legs however, yes, would get destroyed. Then thats fine, you know the consequences
But there is no better protection for bikers than leathers. and you dont have to have 1 piece, either get a two piece like me and you just unzip it and you can walk around fine.

The point i'm making on a 50cc bike, full leathers are just overkill.Maybe a jacket, gloves and a helmet.
but a good Leather jacker and at least some Draggin jeans will protect you enough from speeds the bike/scooter can do.
