50cc Bike advice

Why not go straight to a limited 125cc bike? Then de-restrict it after a year.

You can't restrict the capacity of a bike, how would you possibly change the bore and stroke of it? .

Most 50's are likely to have been ragged to death everywhere by 16 year old chavs with no mechanical sympathy. You are on the right track with not spending too much and getting a 125 later, 50's are just a stop-gap to better things :) .

I mean restrict it to under 35bhp/ton. Then you can use it on CTB1, although I think you might have to be 17, or even 18 then.

Leathers? I ride a ZX6 on occasion, I wear a long leather jacket, gloves and a helmet.
Sod wearing leathers, they look uncool and are seriously uncomfortable to walk around in i find.

Most pathetic excuse for not wearing leathers....ever!

Cheers :)

If I come off my bike it's my fault i got turned into red sludge grating accross the road. I still can't stand leathers.

Then thats fine, you know the consequences

But there is no better protection for bikers than leathers. and you dont have to have 1 piece, either get a two piece like me and you just unzip it and you can walk around fine.

If i was allowed to use a 125 de-restricted i could use my yamaha, But i know you can't i think i am going to get a aprilia rs50 once i have saved. My plan is to have it all by the summer. Does anybody know what the insurance on that kinda thing will cost?

Maybe you should look up the relevant laws before you start giving "advice" on thing's you don't have a clue about.

Even on a CBT you can;t ride anything over 125cc and it must make no more than 14.6bhp. Period. It's not on power to weight ratio at all and 35bhp/ton would be pathetic even for a 50cc moped. So maybe think twice next time before using the rolleyes and making yourself look the fool, eh?

Much much cheaper. I paid £225 TPO (for a year) on my 125 at 17 with no previous experience and on the same day I passed my CBT.

wow, thats incredible! I'm really eager to get a bike license, but i think i should leave it till im out of uni, so a few years time. As i already am a named driver on my mums car, it would seem silly to spend more money on motoring as of the moment!

The top half of my is protected pretty much anyway, it's a really nice thick leather coat. My legs however, yes, would get destroyed.

The point i'm making on a 50cc bike, full leathers are just overkill.Maybe a jacket, gloves and a helmet.

Yea for a 50cc bike i agree, full leathers prob cost more than the bike :p but a good Leather jacker and at least some Draggin jeans will protect you enough from speeds the bike/scooter can do.

Personally I always wear my full leather kit even when I'm only going 2/3rds of a mile down the road to a friend's house. Point being that I just never know when I am going to crash, and if I do, I want as much protection I can have. I've spent enough money on gear (totaling £950 so far....) and if I were to come off and wreck my legs due to not having bottoms on, I'd forever torment myself I'm sure.

So yeah, fair enough you may look stupid with leathers on a 50cc, but draggin jeans would be a good enough compromise. Wear them!!
