Hi

I'm looking to get into IT support at any level?

I have no qualification, how can I do this.

I'm 27 and a CallCentre TeamLeader at present

You can get first line support jobs with no qualifcations, but bare in mind its not a great job generally and the salries are quite low. I think second/third line you'll need a few years experience in support of some kind and maybe qualifications. I started first line helpdesk and after 18 months am now moving onto 2nd line. I think i might be quite lucky though because i'm one of two people on the helpdesk so its very close knit and job is very cushty(sp?) and has been a great learning experience because of the fact it is a helpdesk as apposed to a callcenter where you just log calls and read from troubleshooting guides.

Ace, I might be able to help you. How long you been a team leader for?

The company I work for are hiring for first line staff.

I stepped into a 1st line role with with no formal qualifications (office of about 20) got promoted to team leader in a year and have since left the company and moved to another with my old boss who wanted me to come with her, it can be a quick stepping stone if your good (ill stop blowing my own trumpet now :o)

Ace, email in trust. Coincidence that you are a team leader for a callcentre as the team leader for the IT Service Desk here has just been promoted, leaving the position vacant.

Current company = 18months (Nightfreight)
Old Company = 3years (Powerhouse)

Both Call Centre Team Leaders

Relocate? I moved nearly 70 miles and rented a pad for my first IT helpdesk job.

Actually thats what I want to do, ideally I would love to move to Stafford, about 40miles from where I live now.

But anywhere is good for me. Remembering I have a wife and small child too

I am an apprentice for Desktop support which is basically IT helpdesk, its with my local council but due to LGR changes theirs only temporary positions at the moment if any. but its always good to look.

The pay scale isnt as much as some independent companies but i get free training and more holidays for working with the council. no bonuses though.

I did apply for a job within an online hardware etailer, as a Buyer, but I don't think that I have got the position. :(

Schools are always a good place to start to get some IT experience. They pay fairly horrendous wages though, but after a year you can move on to something a bit better.

First line at our place requires an MCSA/MCDT though. :(

If you come work for my company you'll get 30k + for 1st line support. At the moment I'm basically a receptionist. The desk is 6 big at the mo and the recent new starters have applied through Reed, they seem pretty good for IT related jobs.

Well thats what I get and thats all I do. The contracter sitting next to me is on £20 p\h and doing exactly the same. Not sure what that works out as.

I did 2nd line support for 7 years, and worked my way up to £14k! This was 8 years ago though. I agree with the others that it doesn't pay well, and I certainly didn't get any bonuses. But it was reasonably rewarding, and it gave me lots of experience. As a result of this I managed to blag the ICT managers job at a school down south and did that for a year, which earnt significantly more, and I got the full school holidays too. You can get lucky!

well I have checked the job centre, reed and a few other agency style places. Not sure of where else to search
