Going to OC'ers weekend to get a new card.. my mobo is a ip35pro
pcie-1.0 i think ?? not 2

Which of these would be the best bare in mind i run at 1920x1200
Currently using a 8800GT oc2 which ill stick on ebay as its only a month or so old. Its a great card but once i go above 1680x1050 it does start to show the smaller bus holds it back.. it would be sweet if i was using a screen smaller than 24 inches

heres the 2 im looking at

3870x2

X2 .the GTX is a great card but alittle old tech now and with the new model coming out abit of a waste of money.Wait for the new GTX or get the X2.I would say

You could get another GT and SLI them if your board supports it.

But the next gen cards arent due until maybe june, only dual cards are around at the moment.

Better to wait for the new cards i think

Either buy another GT or go for the X2 IMO.

Buying another GT will probably be the most expensive option but the performance will be better than the X2, at least it should be. The GTX is not a bad card but its a fact that ots over a year old and Nvidia is planning new high end soon... It will serve you well and if you dont mind that go ahead and buy it.
The X2 is overally better than GTX and Ultra but it does have the Crossfire annoyances.

That's PCI-E 1.0 i'm pretty sure, 16x/4x crossfire as well....

SLi isnt possible, Crossfire is not a very good option with the 4x second slot, so 3870X2 (best single card) is prob the best choice avaliable for most games.

TBH, check the benchmarks, and see if your fave games respond well to the X2 approach, if not a GTS 512MB might be a cheaper & better solution. Not however that ATI do have a very good rep for consistent improvments with driver updates.

To be fair though, the X2 is also old tech, as AMD released those last May, and that was even after they were delayed, it should have been out around the time of the old 8 series, but id agree about getting the X2, be great at that res. :)

We've had nowt new for well over a year now, but were expecting it sometime in Q2 this year when R700, and the GT200's arrive.

Ok worded wrong maybe. But if the new model is out soon-ish of the GTX its going to be kinda a waste.Indeed i know its the same tech just tweaked but as with the old GTS ,GTX mark1 will become some what obsolete.

(Not saying it wont pack a punch etc just who would want to by the old model soon to be wrote of instead of waiting a few months for the new one).

Cant see the point unless you got money to burn or your a 3dmark freak.Or your
card just give up etc.1680x1050 for a few months cant hurt him much :P

If you want to upgrade 3870X2.

I have just upgraded from a 7-series nvidia card. I don't buy into all this nvidia/ati favouritism - when I decide to upgrade, I try to buy the latest, best card. At the time of writing, that is the 3870X2, no question.

There are quite a few 2nd hand GTXs in MM for about £180 - £200 when you have access to them. But if you have £300 to spend on a single card then it has to be the X2.
