Hi all,

I'm looking at a CTR

2005 (54) - 2 Owners, 17k miles, Grey, with A/C - It's up for: £10,999

Good price?

Thanks

i paid £500 more than that for a very similar model and that was 3-4 months ago. I did get a free service and MOT too.

it's not bad, but try for £500 off

Looking at prices on Pistonheads the other day for myself, seems reasonable.....until you drop the bombshell that it is £10.5k on a civic. Hence why I am tempted by a Lotus S1/VX220 myself. Totally different car, but if you can live with the impracticalities - I know which one I would go for!

Not bad, however if you're willing to accept a older facelift car (04-on) and slightly more miles (~40k) you can knock £2K+ off that price.

Plus you want Milano Red or NHB over cosmic grey :)

Quoted for the truth. Plus white wheels - I will post the same photo as I always post for this example.. :D

I was looking at getting it, but as said above... that money could also get you many other cars such as:

VX220

or

Lotus S1

or

330 Convertable

same old story......you can get loads more cars for the same money if you add 3/4/5 years to the age and 30-60,000 more to the miles.

depends what you want.

Of course you can get other cars for the money, but if you want a CTR that's not a bad price, could knock a little off I think or get a free service etc. Milano Red is the best colour btw :)

Just showing him the options mate... no need to take the hump. I myself was looking at exactly the same car on an 04 plate 3 days ago (please read either above posts or my actual thread for reference). I have now opened my eyes to alternatives...so thought I would suggest some. I have already pimped the red CTR with white wheels which is an excellent car.

It's a better contribution to the thread than you have had? Does mileage or age really matter that much to you?

yah - I want a late one with low miles as possible - But I don't really want to go over £10k.

I know there is lots of cars out there for £10k - But I just want to experience that VTEC zone and have hassle free motoring.

I'm not taking the hump with anyone. I was simply commenting that it would depend where the priorities lay. Me personally would want a car with lower milage and a decent age etc rather than an older car with high mileage which would be getting to the stage where the possibility for failure is higher.

There are too many posts on here where people will recommend 10 year old supercars (i'm exagerating (sp?) a little there) for the same budget as a newer car.

As i have said, it depends where the OP's priority is....each to their own.

As for my contribution to the thread....what's the problem with it? The question was, is this a decent price for that car. My response was accurate in my opinion.

There are plenty of decent examples out there and i'm sure with the newer FN2 being taken up that the Honda stealers will offer decent deals on them.

If i was buying again, i would have gone for a premier as i prefer the seats.

There are also some good private sales available. I nearly bought privately but for the extra £1000 it cost me from a stealer i got a service (which is the first thing i'd do from a private sale anyway) 2 new tyres and a free MOT. That with a years warranty and someone to shout at if something goes wrong was worth it to me.

also, you need to accept the fact that the value of these are dropping reasonably quick. expect £2k+ loss in a year.

I paid £9900 for my 04 NHB with A/C 6 months ago.

25k FHSH with mods (front strut & rear tie bar, AEM, Buddyclub spec 3) + few other bits and bobs.
Mint condition bar few stone chips on the front which you expect with Honda paint!.

I'd say thats a fair price to be honest. Is it from a dealer or private ?

I was interested in the fact that the latest model got a bad review on Top gear... I would have thought they would hold their value to a certain extent as one of the better revisions of the CTR. Especially the Anni model which was made in limited quantities.

With regards to suggesting other vehicles, I had already posted about the price and my opinions on it. I then offered the OP a view of other cars which might interest him from the CTR, considering I am in the same position.

I can understand that the OP wants VTEC with hassle free driving, which is exactly what I was after... till I realised that I am young, single and quite frankly don't give a carp about AC, heated mirrors etc. I barely use 2 seats in my Golf, which is why somebody in my position would be ideal for the alternatives suggested. It is now apparent that they may not be suitable to the OP as he wants hassle free driving, which the Lotus/VX220 are not.

It is worth noting that you can pick up an 03/4 plate VX220 with very little mileage on though, so it isn't exactly ancient.

Your going from an LCR to a CTR? In God's good name why???????

Why not remap your LCR and enjoy that new feeling again? (unless you have done already!)

i can count the time i have had more than 1 passenger on one hand in my volvo. But after a crap 6am-8pm day at work it just wafts home in comfort.. Smoooth auto, heater comes on almost instanlty even on coldest days and a warm backside from the heated seats. Not quick off the mark (200bhp and 1600kg) but with kickdown it overtakes very well.

A VX220 would be a great weekend car but i would hate to live with it day to day

I am looking for a new car myself and have thought about getting a sporty 2 seater as I would LOVE an Elise but it’s not just the impracticality of owning one but also using it as your daily driver may grow tiresome as I feel its more of a weekend car then a car to commute in. Again like already posted its down to personal taste. Myself, I would need 4 seats really and would prefer to own something newer/less mileage as Reality Bites has already echoed.

The problem is with the car market is there are just so many options, I have looked at countless numbers of cars and still haven’t found the right one for me. There is so many arguments between each car such as vtec vs turbo, 4 seats vs 2 seats, running costs, depreciation etc. etc. and I have still yet to find what will suite me best

p.s. i don't normally like red on cars but that ctr is yummy :o
