My opinions on Vista SP1, 8 months later..

I don't understand Vista haters, Vista isn't bad at all and comparing it with XP is silly, why? XP's had a fair good life span and Vista has only just had it's first birthday. You cannot tell me that XP, when first released was the best thing ever because it had as many problems as Vista does.

i think its more to do with the fact that MS shouldnt be releasing an operating system that needs so much attention. it shouldnt have happened with xp either, but because it did people seem to use Xp as an excuse. i dont know, i just dont think thats right at all.

apart from the transfer rates, i have no other problems with vista, i should add. before people accuse me of vista hating.

Don't be daft. For starters just about every IT professional involved in Microsoft technologies is using Vista now, that couldn't be said about Windows ME.

Umm no actually every IT sensible IT professional is still using Windows XP and will be doing so for sometime, it is what we continue to advise our customers to buy for business and i have yet to see any significant advantages Vista has over XP.

The above comment quoting Windows Vista as being similar by release to ME is not far from the truth, the operating system was rushed to fill a void in the market well in advance of proper vendor hardware and software support.

Vista is a badly polished version of Xp much like ME was to Windows 98.

Same here, it's as stable as XP, just hard drive/LAN copying is awfully slow.

As has been previously discussed, business uptake of any new operating system is a useless metric in looking at an operating system. The costs to change OS will never be outweighed by the benefits it provides, no matter how good the OS is.

With regards to hardware and software support, there would be no problem if vendors had followed the specs for XP correctly and not assumed everyone uses an admin account constantly (which is lazy, bad developing practice). It's not Vista that's the problem there, it just enforces something that XP always should have done.

No it's not? BMW and Mercs are everywhere. They are practically the "Windows" of cars.
Look, just because it's 'few' doesn't mean it's rubbish.

It is catching up like it has never before, it's a sign of change. My friend who has Mac and PC, he called me over to his PC few times to get rid of the viruses and fixed the infamous 'lower filter' issue once. All of viruses and spywares are because of his grown up kids.

His Macbook Pro which is shared by his family? Not a single call in the 2 years since he first bought it!

Stop making some rubbish 'assumptions'!

Excuse me while I pick myself up off the floor...

It's comments like this that show just how little some people know about the software. There is so much that has been totally rewritten for vista, some of which had barely been touched since 3.1, that the above comment can only be born from utter ignorance.

By 'everywhere' I mean by friends, work, IT experts etc...obviously you're reading it wrong. Have a pair of rolleyes.

Seems appropriate don't you think? ;-)

In fact so rock solid here that it has not had to be re-installed once since it was released over a year ago! An experience I have not had with any other version of windows.

the very fact you resorted to that shows how weak your argument is

No I've given explanations of my problems, which has been blasted back by the Vista fan boys that I'm doing something wrong, or even "trolling"...which proves my point that those people just don't want to admit people are having problems..

You're saying that Vista is pants becuase you have issues with it. Do you think all Muslims are terrorists as well because a small amount are?

Oh yes. I'll sit here and watch Vista BSOD, randomly delete files...screw my hard drives up and deny it because...well just why exactly would I deny it brains?

That is the most stupid and utterly ridiculous argument ever.

I have no problems to deny, I was troubled by the transfer speed issue (which is now solved for me, well atleast in what I transfer).

I like XP but for me Vista is a step forward. Nvidia's drivers are now on par with XP and I'm having no issues.

Have I said Vista BSOD's? Nope. My god it's like the Apple forums..

Hey badbob, I think everyone understands that Windows Vista is much slower for some people than Windows XP, at the moment, in regards to transferring files. However, people are always commenting on you trolling because you seem to say it every time a thread like this comes up and to tell you the truth, it gets very tiresome and boring. :)

Hello chesterstu, I think badbob does actually like Windows Vista; it is only the slow transfer problems that he is having problems with, which is fair enough and depending on how you use your system, I imagine it could affect your work to a certain extent. :)
