Brit jailed in Dubai for spec of cannabis stuck to his shoe

I'm surprised the paper isn't applauding this as the "criminal" isn't white, right-wing nor from the Home Counties. He must be guilty of something, may as well be drugs.

The Daily Mail is a comic for those who choose not to think.
 
the dj who used to be on radio1 grooverider is in prison there now because they found a joint and porn mag in his record box :p

This isn't the first time something like this has happened in Dubai. I remember some woman got a couple of months in prison a while ago for possessing prescription painkillers that were illegal in the UAE. Personally I would never go to the UAE again - just too risky. It's not that great to begin with honestly.

Why, it's an utterly laughable tabliod rag filled with lazy sensationalist journalism. It's a red top in disguise so the middle classes feel less embarrased about buying it.

I heard this story on the radio this morning. I feel it's overkill by the UAE and if it happens a few more times it will affect their tourist industry. However, it probably won't happen again since now they've got the publicity they wanted. Would be interesting to see what the real narcotics usage and trafficing figures were like in the UAE, what their arrest rates were the effectiveness of this policy in stopping real criminals.
