A guy with a $6 million home cinema system

Would be an awsome visual and aural (behave) feast, however I can't help think that all the light from the amp would distract from the film watching.

imagine this scenario:

Yes darling lets watch a nice romantic film tonight, you just got to wait while I turn on the 13 processors, 35 amps, projector all while doing the cha cha cha & hopefully not tripping over any of the cables & breaking my neck. A little OTT tbqh, bet it sounds great!

Everything is probably controlled via RS 232, so it's probably easier to use than your lounge system. One remote will do it all and will switch on, change input automatically as required for each activity.

that must be cable hell when its all plugged in...and once youve manged to navigate to the sofa hopefully averting serious injury then i imagine its a great experience (oh how i wish i had anywhere near that kind of cash)

Still think layout is lousy, why not have the amps in another room / partition? Also having 16 subwoofers in a room is a bass node setup nightmare.

This kind of thing belongs in a hi-tech museum not in a home, well not for me anyway!! Can't even lie down on that sofa, bet it doesn't even recline. Should have gone to DFS, apparently there's a sale on at the moment.

thats a bloody good point! i guess they'd all have to be filtered so that no two bass drivers are outputting exactly the same frequencies at the same time...

No you want the subs to be outputting the same frequencies, however you'll want the frequency response at the sofa flat across, so for that system you'll need a 16 band parametric EQ.

Being into HT I can see the appeal of such kit, but he really went overboard without thinking things through. I would have gone for four top end subs, 2 stacked ontop of each other, and at a certain position in the room. I doubt you need 16 top end subwoofers in a room that size (which isn't that big btw)

Also with that much spl/bass in his room I bet his CD's, albums and DVD's rattle away. Considering he's a mult-millionare why not have all media in another room? Or in a music server/video server?

Only had a quick skim read of the article but this a beta version of a system he wants to sell for the ultimate film experience. The finished product would be hidden away.

He does say a skimmed down version could be made for home use, so I'm sure a nice sofa could be squeezed in. :p

nothing is as funny as seeing audio boffins comparing their 10k setup to this monster in the comments section.

my B&W cost 5.99million less and sounds just as good, the guy is all show ....rofl

A CI has seen pictures of that install, and agrees with me. Lovely kit, with no thought to installation or room acoustics (and if you know about acoustics then you'll know that 16 subwoofers at different locations in the room will result in a terribly uneven frequency response)

And what's the point of having those amps where you can trip over them? Install them in a network racking system, or in another room or partition so you're not going to spill drinks whilst you walk past them to sit down.

i guess you should get in contact with the guy and sort that mess out then, send him pictures of your 10'x6' movie room and show him how it's done.

Jeez, my boss has just spent £60k on a TV and I thought that was crazy, I'll send him this! Is a bit depressing in some ways, surely he can find better things to spend that much money on and if not then perhaps he ought to give some of it away.
