Hi All, I have just got a new car, and I thought I would do a quick car wash. I washed it and let it try. Then I noticed white chalky streeks, so I washed it again, to find the white chalky streeks still there.

I have gone over it with a dry cloth and they seem to disappear for about 30secs and then come back again, in the direction i wiped it down...

Any ideas???

Because the water you are using is hard and when it dries the dirt/particles in the water are drying onto your car. Only way to stop this is to dry your car with a good drying towel or *shudder* chamois.

i've used a chamois and that too leaves the marks...

The car is originally from Guersey, so would it have anything to do with the salt which would be in the air over there if they lived near the beach?

Don't let the car dry on its own. Dry it off with the towels.

Try and get it out the sun to wash it if you can - that will help. Alternatively washing it in the early evening will help.
