So, was going too fast round a bend, on a road i wasn't sure about, late at night, as in recently, so no other cars about fortunately. Yes i was being a bit of a ****, so no need to flame me!

Basically i was going sideway round the corner, heading in the direction of the ditch, as im relatively inexperienced at drifting and stuff my natural reaction was to go for the brake, as i have huge feet and small pedals my foot ended up on the accelerator. Pretty soonish i wasn't drifting and then i was back on my way!

Was accelerating anything to do with me not being upside-down in the ditch, or did i just get lucky, and am able to take it as a lesson(which i will do anyway) to go slow on un-known roads?

Google map co-ordinates Limbersey Ln @52.045402, -0.449971

well i was in a FWD Ford Ka going 50, into what was probably a 30 corner  There was only one slow sign, and normally on the roads round here if it says slow, it means 50 instead of 60, if they want 40 or less they stick up the chevron signs!

I got caught out by that sort of thing. Driving a Renault 5 at rather large speeds went round a corner that only had a bend sign ( triangle with a shape like 'r' in it), turns out it was rather a sharp, hard corner that could have done with chevron signs...I planted the car onto it's roof...on the road. :D

EDIT: From what's been said on here before I understand that accelerating is better than braking. I think I used the brakes...can't actually remember what happened fully, happened so quickly.

yes, it was imensly quick and i don't think I've ever bricked my self so much in my life before ever! I just sort of though, ohh **** I'm going to crash, urrmmm brake! Oooo, thank god i didn't crash, oh wait a second, my foots on the accelerator, wtf!

I brake before the corner, braking mid-corner upsets the back end! Then accelerate out the corner, hard:cool:

edit, re-read thread. Yeah accelerating probably helped, not sure personally as it's never happened to me.

From what I've read previously of your threads, you seem to be an accident waiting to happen. Every other week its a "got pulled over by the cops" + "Are my friends allowed to drink in the car" + "How to brake". For someone with so little driving experince you'd think you'd be learning to just calm it down a little.

I know this little occurance was probably down to lack of experience, but please, just be bloody careful from now on as I promise you, you cant keep on making these silly mistakes and getting away with it, soon its going to bite you hard and lets pray you don't take someone with you when it does.

Accleration likely pulled you out of a spin and straightened you out, might've lost your back end had you braked hard. Agree with above poster, take it easy.

Yeah, isn't nice, is even worse when you do crash. :p

I'm not aloud to crash, its my mums car and she would kill me, i might complain to the county council that chevrons should be put up, because that is tighter than a 90 degree bend and they only have a painted slow sign on the road!

Thanks <(multi)> I wasn't speeding, i was going a sensible speed for what is usual round this area, there were no chevrons and it was dark, as far as i knew it was another normal 50 corner! Getting pulled over had nothing to do with me, he though i was joyriding, he said my driving was fine however, but wanted to do the check just in case. My friends drink really has no affect on my driving, i have an ability which literally blocks them out, its almost as if im driving on my own! This is the first close call I've had, which compared to a lot of my friends well I'm one of a few!

I've noticed this too.

If it says it on the road, READ IT. I'm sorry, but seriously, the corner I totaled myself on had no indication as to it's sharpness bar the triangle sign (which is used on small corners, which I thought it was). If it had any other markings I'd have slowed and not crashed.

As the last couple of people have said, take it easy. I did my car in 6 months after passing and still get the fun of large insurance quotes.

EDIT: I did not know the road I was on, and was driving like a tool, nowadays when I'm driving somewhere I do not know I keep my speed down, even if it means I'm going really slowly compared to places I know, it's much safer and more sensible. Plus it gets you to where you are going in one piece. :)

1) If it's your mums car and you'll be killed if you crash, why not just take it easier so that things like this don't happen?

2) If you don't know the road, again take it easy, you'll have more chance of staying alive then.

hmmmmm, I'll await next weeks thread when your asking for legal advice after you've written off someones car then.

Sorry, I've been your age and I've seen all my friends drive like they stole it weeks after passing their test. One lad rolled it at over 100mph whilst drinking in the car (in a 30 zone). One lad is in prision for racing, which resulted in the death of his opponent and many many others have ended up in hospital. You matey, aren't far behind them, so please just take care out there!

Yes, I've learned my lesson now, by almost crashing. The only defense i can really say, is all the corners seem to say slow, even ones you don't need to on, InvG, you say the bend sign meant you didn't slow down, but in reality, it does mean you should slow!

I can assure you know, that my posts have probably come across as a lot more dramatic than what you have just compared me to! I don't drink and drive, not even a sip of beer, just not worth it! 100 in a 30 zone, is stupid crazy, i don't even go above 70 in a 60! And i don't race cars, not only is my car not fast enough to win, but i don't like going fast in places where people roam, this incident was a dark, unlit country road at 11pm, i was just not thinking about the fact it could be a really tight corner! I've learnt my lesson from this now, and i won't be going fast on unknown roads ever again!
