security alert north sea

It's being reported that it's the Safe Scandinavia accomodation barge that's involved, not sure what platform it's at though.

I don't think it will turn out to be serious. Probably just some green activist or nutter making a hoax. If it was a proper terrorist incident e.g. from AQ or friends, the rig would be at the bottom of the sea by now. The days of friendly warnings of terror attacks are long gone.

No, it's just the guy from the military isn't meant to reveal any info regarding operations, well nothing specific. He knows stuff, he just isn't saying.

It was more of a dig at the women on the BBC, rather than the interviewee. She was asking very stupid and futile questions. "When, where, how" etc. Get a clue lady and ask some real questions!

Yeah terrorists for sure. OMG Panic panic etc.

Typical over reaction to lack of information so assume worst case.

Shall we wait and see what is actually happening first?

Who's to blame?

- Terrorism...?
- Scientology..?
- Burning Toast...?
- Greenpeace...?
- Drunken games of fireball getting out of hand...?
- Pharmaceutical Companies aiming to make profit peaks on acryflex...?

Clearly scientology! :p

Hate it when theres nothing to report but the Beeb feel they have to report regardless.

About 14 helicopters and a Nimrod reconnaissance aircraft were sent to the Safe Scandinavia platform in the Britannia oil field, 210 kilometres north-east of the Scottish city of Aberdeen, the officials said.

A spokeswoman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said about 500 oil workers were being evacuated to other platforms and there were no reports of any injuries.

Sky News said the evacuation operation followed a bomb threat. Officials said the incident involved a woman on board the platform but gave no details.

BBC News 24 quoted sources saying the incident was not terrorist-related.

The Ministry of Defence in London said it had responded to a request to provide a bomb disposal team.

ABC.

There were three chinooks flying in fixed formation across Newark (My home town) this morning, could this be related I wonder? Must have been around 9'ish as I got woken up by them - terrific sound to be woken up by though.
