Worldwide protests against Scientology kicks off

if the scientologists had half a brain they would send someone out pretending to be a protestor and start a riot.

Apparently someone was apprehended at the London one (not affiliated with Anon) so they may well have done that... or at least tried.

All this is the best publicity ever!!

...for scientology

How did you work that out? They're peaceful protests, it isn't going to make Anon/*chan etc. look bad.

It will take money from people until they are bankrupt. Does that sound like a responsible organisation to you?

It also attempts to suppress free speech, persecutes critics and ex-members (slander and defamation are two of its most frequently used weapons) and occasionally kills people.

Click here, then scroll down to "Personal accounts". Alternatively, click here.

There's more. Much more.

Didn't northern rock do the same thing? Apart from they didnt go bankrupt, but nearly.

Publicity does not necessarily mean showing someone/thing in a particular light; it refers to an extensive mention in the news media or by word of mouth or other means of communication.

Due to these protests, the word scientology is bouncing around the news, internet, forums, papers even more than before- the name is becoming more and more recurrent & with every thousand people who hear about it, i'm sure at least one will think about enquiring into it further

No.

Northern Rock didn't go bankrupt, and didn't make anyone else bankrupt, either.

Additionally, NR didn't force anyone to give them money under duress, and they didn't kill anyone. Which is probably a good thing for all concerned.

Yes but not all publicity is good publicity, if it continues the way it's gone so far then Scientology will be shown in a bad light and more people will be aware of their existence and behaviour.

Better they find out now than be recruited ;)

And all the publicity is bad. Not quite what Scientology wants to see & hear, tbh.

The Scientologists are smart enough to know that the old saying "any publicity is good publicity", is a load of cobblers. That's why they spend millions trying to shut people up.

Imagine you're a rapist, and your name is released to the international media. Imagine that your crime, in all its gory detail, is beamed across the world for everyone to read - and every media outlet is baying for your blood.

Would you call that good publicity, or bad publicity?

Wow. I'm going out later, gonna nip by and have a look. Didn't know Scientology was so big it'd come to a small town like York!

hehe they moved in last year, we got a leaflet through the door asking if we wanted a test done  however ive never seen the church (and i walk past there everyday), i thought it was just in matmer house?,
it was good to see them out though the police were hanging around. i walked past it all on the way to work and thus couldnt join in :(

Nope, no sir, ebaums did it ;)

yes, after spending the whole day (and most days since) looking into it and heading down into brighton to try to catch a glimpse (but only seeing one party van :( ) i have indeed become aware that it is all eric bauman's fault, as is usually the case

:)

It is possibly the best thing the internets has ever achieved though, and i'm massively turned on by it all (matron)

I was at my local demonstration and took a few pictures, I felt really suspicious as I did so, bet they all thought i was a spy for the scientologists...

Too the several people wondering what all the fuss is about and this organization is very dangerous. It preys on the weak minded and gullible with false promises with the ultimate aim of taking all their money. It forces people to cut ties with all friends and family and they harass anyone who dares speak against them. At last but not least, if you want to look at it in the best reasonable light then it's simply a business that's looking to make money, so it should be treated a such and taxed accordingly.

Mailings of a suspicious white powder to 10 Church of Scientology addresses prompted the evacuation of dozens of people and the closure of a major thoroughfare Wednesday as hazmat teams were called to examine the packages.

I like this bit....

The mailings come after a cyber attack last week on the Church's website. Authorities said there was no evidence that Wednesday's mailings were connected to the hacking.

How naive :D

Ebaums has never done anything original. Can't believe people still actually visit that stupid place. It didn't start there. :)

They were responsible for the DDoS attack though. And the wite powder too, most likely.

All you Newcastle and Sunderland lot, I expect to see you at the Sunderland church, 15/3/08. Bring cake, eat it, and celebrate the birthday of L. Ron Hubbard. And don't forget to mention all the evil stuff scientology has done to any passers by.
With the added bonus that its also St Patricks day, so when we've eaten all the cake and given out all the flyers, its off to the local!

And there is a Greggs right opposite the Sunderland church, so you don't have to walk far to get food.

There were 15 of us on Sunday, I'd like to see more this time :)
