Sky said:Workers Flee Oil Rig After Bomb Hoax
A bomb threat that sparked the helicopter evacuation of more than 500 oil workers on a North Sea rig is being treated as a hoax, Sky sources have said.
The rescue operation reportedly followed comments by a woman on the installation.
A bomb disposal unit was on its way to the facility, which is more than 100 miles north-east of Aberdeen.
Jake Molloy, an offshore workers union representative, had been doubtful any explosives could be smuggled onto a rig because of "very, very rigid" security restrictions on the mainland.
The woman, who is a British national and had been working aboard the installation, was detained by the offshore installation manager.
The alert, at 0920 GMT, resulted in 539 people being taken off the Flotel Safe Scandinavia platform.
However, all personnel are now being allowed back on.
Grampian Police said it did not consider that the incident had been terrorist related.
Hope she's made to pay for the cost to the company and the tax payer for this. silly cow.

There were three chinooks flying in fixed formation across Newark (My home town) this morning, could this be related I wonder? Must have been around 9'ish as I got woken up by them - terrific sound to be woken up by though.
If there was really a bomb why would a terrorist tell them that they had planted one?![]()
The purpose of terrorism is to terrorise. If there was really a bomb why would a terrorist tell them that they had planted one?![]()
I wish the military would use some common sense.
The platform they were on is a special accomodation one, there isn't that many people on normal rigs iirc.
?bomb squad dispatched.
so a terrorist attack for sure
by who? hmmmm

Depends on the size, but your average platform would have anything upto about 100people on it. Some of the massive platforms can have several hundred people on them.Still, that's a lot of people on a small platform. How many would normally work a rig?

Smallest permanantly manned platform I've been on had about 33 people on it.
Companies hire these barges to give them extra bed space when they undertake massive construction projects.
