I would love to know the cost in 14 RAF choppers, the Police and Coastguard costs too.

Can anyone tell me other than cooking and cleaning, why a 'woman' would be on a rig?
 
Apart from cooking and cleaning, I've worked alongside a few women on drilling rigs doing various jobs like sample catcher, mud logger, mud engineer etc. I've heard of women roustabouts and roughnecks too but never met one. There are many jobs on board an oil rig that women could easily do e.g. electrician, mechanic, crane operator etc.

Being a misogynist isn't making you look too clever, you know.
 
I've seen female medics, stewards, rope access techs (athletic :cool:) and production operators. Normally, at least where I've been the cooks/chef/stewards have been male.

Bigstan, any of the stewards of your rig from Eastern Europe? I hear the rigs ConocoPhillips hire are nearly all female from that neck of the woods. Turns a few heads and more I here :D

No my uncle is a rigger, could never ever remember him talking of women on his months/weeks offshore. I would be interested to find out her position on the platform.

I have no hatred of women, quite the opposite ;). However should I be labled a sexist because I think there are jobs (as quite apparent here!!) that they should not be allowed to do?

(apart from the cleaning and cooking bit :D hehe)

Nah, I'm working in the Med, off the coast of Egypt just now. All our stewards are Egyptians and there are no women at all on the rigs here :(

A couple of the rigs I worked on in the North sea had Eastern European girls as sample catchers and there was an Italian mud logger on one who was an absolute honey.

Yeah yeah yaeh I know what you mean, but I am saying a passenger who hasn't flown and has never read newspapers could possibly be excused for a 'joke' etc.

I wouldn't expect someone working with oil to make such a joke, or be stupid enough to not realise the consequences of making one.
 
I can't imagine anyone being able to sneak a bomb onboard a platform. Everytime I've had to go offshore its been a major operation to get test equipment past security.

Still, glad its nothing more serious than someone whose a bit nutz :)

Oh right I see what you mean.

5 Live were saying something like she had a dream about a bomb being on the rig but that's all they know for now.

Is there a reliable source for this information?

I would be very surprised if an accommodation platform was evacuated because a cook told people about a nightmare - I would imagine there would be much more to the story than that.
