Nice weather....bikes come out to play!

Bought myself a nice NC30 the week before last and decided I'd go 'home' this weekend to get used to it properly (Bristol to Crowborough, 180 ish miles), taking the a-roads both ways and both friday afternoon and today was really nice weather to ride in, enjoyed it a lot, the NC30 is far far better than my old FZR400 :)

Not that I stopped riding during the winter, I did moan that it was too cold at times though :p

All the bloody sunday warriors and muppets come out to play.

Yeah im on a bike, its OK i can overtake anywhere anytime no matter what, 30mph, sod that, MEEEEEP ive gained a whole 5 meters of road space...

GRARARARARGH!!!!!!

Bit harsh to say all bikers do this? In my experience of bikers its only a few who are as bad as this, yes they are a great overtaking tool, of course, but most only do so when its either needed or is safe to do so.

that be me. ;)

i'm pretty good actually through towns. :) once it's non-residential though i overtake but only if nothing coming the other way... or if a car pulls over and leaves me enough room to get by in the same lane. :) happened quite a lot this weekend which i was impressed with!

Of the ones i saw today, 90% were riding like tools, the daily riders are fine but there are way too many fair weather or sunday power rangers who will die.

And before you say it i only saw one poor car rider today who belted past then got stuck 1 car infront of me.....

Id get called all the names under the sun if i just went overtaking lines of cars doing 10-20mph over the limit in a 30 or 40mph area.

You seem to have a problem with people who overtake you? It dont matter if they get stuck once past you they saved some time. Bikes can overtake lines of cars cos there is spaces for us to fit back in when needed, which really isnt that often the roads are so wide.

I think you should really get a bike and save your self the daily road rage you seem to be having.

Im well aware that bikes can filter, i have no problem with them doing so.

If im sat on the limit, doing the limit, and you fly past doing at least 30% over then yes i do.

i agree with you on that one. unless it's a nonresidential 30 or 40. lots of roads around here used to be NSL but are now 30 mph in anticipation of new building.... so in 5 years time it will actually be needed lol.

To overtake you need to minimise your TED though - even the IAM and other advanced motorist organisations including the police recognise this. That's a weak argument I'm afraid dude. :) Though of course in town in a 20/30 zone I agree it's silly overtaking like a fool. Though in London you "filter" on the move ;)

Ah yes, but if im sat on the limit doing the limit and you have caught and want to overtake me then you must be speeding and a child killer. ;)

All im saying in my experience ive seen a lot of bad riding this weekend which until the recent good weather wasnt present and will end up with a few pranged cycles and some hurt pride.

Its just got to me a bit thats all, i dont fancy being ploughed into or hitting a motorcyclist whose got a bit over enthusiastic.

What's this 'waiting' you talk of? Some of us have been riding all winter. I can't understand people putting their bikes away at the first sign of a bit of a nip in the air! You get some lovely crisp sunny days in winter and the roads are nice and quiet

But yeah, loads of bikes out today :)

You cant understand what? Te fact i dont want to get **** wet through? The fact i want to be able to ride on "decent" road surfaces? The fact i dont want to be freezing my arse off?....

Where is the fun in that?

To have serious fun on a bike you need the ROAD SURFACES to be at a decent temp so your tyres can warm up, in winter this will NEVER happen!

Serious mate....rain, snow, sleet, cold weather = 4 wheels....everything else = 2 wheels:D

Its just got to me a bit thats all, i dont fancy being ploughed into or hitting a motorcyclist whose got a bit over enthusiastic.

So if you hit a motorctclist its because THEY got over enthusiastic????

Cheers :)

Well yeah, if they come belting past and overcook it and come off, pulling wheelies that go wrong etc etc it could occur.

Translation - Time for me to get frustrated sitting in endless spring / summer traffic jams wishing I was on a bike.

I ride everyday to work around 1.5hr rain or shine, drive quite carefully. However, sun comes out on a Sunday im out on a/b roads giving the bike LOADS and having a whole heap of fun.... dont give a *&^% what any tin box driver thinks. I don't put others lives at risk, and if I want to risk my own thats my lookout :-)

edit: ohhhh you drive a rover, that explains it.. pipe and slippers brigade ahoy ;)

You take it so personally... :p Took the old Goose out yesterday, still works beautifully considering it's 28 this year, and of course sounding like any good V-twin should ;). Saw a fair few loonies around in both cars and on bikes - the cars generally pulling out right in front of me and the bikes doing some crazy overtaking, with a few forcing the oncoming traffic to brake and/or swerve. Whichever way you look at it that kind of riding is a wholly bad thing and totally unnecessary.

Time Exposed to Danger - i.e. the time spent overtaking. :)

Ah yes, but if im sat on the limit doing the limit and you have caught and want to overtake me then you must be speeding and a child killer. ;)

I agree bad riders do give a lot of other bikers a bad name. I'm quite patient and like to hang back a bit (because if someone in front brakes, or does something unexpected I can react), and when it does come to overtaking the extra visibility and run up means I can blast past with minimal time.

Yeah there are a lot of people that will just go out and forget to let themselves back into their riding slowly. I used to ride in the winter too so I tended to always be a bit more careful - as well as commuting in London you have to have your wits about you otherwise you're dead.

Ultimately you get bad riders as you get bad drivers, it's just easier to spot a bad rider as they are a little bit more "obvious" than cars.

There are plenty of bad riders on the roads, and they tend to be the ones who only ride on sunny sundays. At the same time there are loads of terrible drivers, distracted by radios/mobiles/kids in the back. Recipe for disaster

Was great weather for it this weekend, cant remember the last time i had as much fun lol, met up with loads of other bikers :D

And the biker hobbits were out aswell :o

Winter is for honing your observational skills, your smoothness and lines on the road and learning what different surfaces are like under your tyres.

If you're getting cold and wet you're wearing the wrong gear.

My mate does the same thing - bike goes away in November and came out yesterday. I noticed last year when the summer was so bad that if it started raining mid-rideout he was a bag of nerves, wobbling round corners as he just had no experience or exposure to anything other than dry road surfaces, where in fact modern tyres cope with cold temps and wet temps incredibly well if you're smooth with the controls.

I commute on my bike every day in pretty much any weather, even though I have the choice of that or the car. I just hate being stuck in traffic. I dont go out for a rideout if its chucking it down though, but there are lots of crisp, dry sunny days in winter.

Excellent day out on Sat, one of the first of the year. Took a trip up with a bunch of friends to Torr's Head in Ballycastle, then to Lisburn and then back home to Carrick. All in all a FUN day out! Grinning like mad on the way home along the Antrim Coast Road! :D
