So I jumped in a little lake, poked a stick in first to see how deep it was. was about knee high so I jumped in ( why I did this is a long story) turns out the sand at the bottom was like quick sand. Sunk up to my crotch and the water went up to my chest. managed to pull myself out from the suction (thought Iwas going to go under) and needless to say my phone is broke.

Put it in the airing cupboard and its broke.

On orange. no insurance. what chance do I have of getting a replacement.

Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem and how muc hit cost to sort out.

Thanks Luke

If you don't have insurance, you're out of luck. Try taking all electrical gadgetry off of your person before being an idiot.

wanted help didn't want to be insulted. thanks for the replies tho guys

He may have a bit of a point though :) anyway if your on contract give them a ring and they may offer to replace your phone for a small charge as long as you sign up to the orange care insurance for the rest of the contract

Just out interest did you take the battery out as soon as you were out of the lake?

You might benefit from taking it apart and cleaning it with distilled water then sticking it in the airing cupboard for as long as you can without the battery.

If you have insurance with your phone company = replacement
If you don't have insurance with your phone company = no replacement

Quite simple.

What kind of phone was it? Had a few with orange and thus may have a similar one in a draw that you can have the guts out of.

Dont Orange do that emergency insurance where you get tied into it for x months but they will replace the phone? Im still unsure if they would under the circumstances...

1. That's breaking the forum rules.
2. I agree with him.

If one happens to post something like this, you have to expect the be lambasted for it.

I know if I did something like that, I would never hear the end of it from my friends.

The OP is tantamount to asking advice on how to get out of the situation without any/limited responsibility. If I was going anywhere near water of reasonable depth, I would empty my pockets just in case I fell over or something similar.

In answer to the question from the OP:

1. very little chance.
2. I would go with the distilled water idea. Buy some distilled water from Boots (5L for about £5) and immerse the phone in it (without the battery). Ensure that it is cleaned out by shaking it about a little in the water and let it dry in an airing cupboard near a radiator for a good 24-48 hours. Buy a new battery and put it in (£10 for a generic). That's about the best hope you have.

Wow, put my phone in the airing cupboard and took it out later on, screen was broke (fuzz) but I could see that the menu was still working. So I put it back in the cupbThanks for the repies guys and gals, made me laugh.
