Hi
I'm looking for a nice and quiet gaming system. I have already got an Antec SLK3000b case which has 120mm front fan and rear fan, (both of which are silent.)
I'm not too sure about the RAM/mobo combo...but i picked ASUS becuase from my previous experience their mobos are really reliable and well made. The graphics i chose because i guess its meant to be quite quiet. I would probably have chosen the cheapest 8800GT and then put a quiet cooling solution on it anyway so the Leadtek seemed ideal. I didn't want to go for the Sparkle 3 heatpipe 8800 GT because although i have experience of GFX without a fan (my 5900FX with zalman cooling solution) i would be worried about my case temps with that GFX.
I will of course be clocking the E2200 but not too extreme. Say 2.8 or 3ghz due to the voltages/temps required for higher clocks, and i've read mainly from posts in here that 3ghz is achievable with the stock cooler - which also is meant to be dam quiet too.
The HD and DVDR choices don't really bother me too much, as I think most brands/models sold here would suit me just fine, and there is little difference between different models/brands.
So does this seem like an OK setup?

Also i was wondering what are the differences between the Asus P5K and the Asus P5K PRO versions? Apparantly the RAID function on the Asus P5K is a mere RAID between a eSATA and a SATA drive....but what about on the PRO version?

looking forward to your views/comments

pretty good setup :)

the vanilla P5K is a pretty stable board but will be a little more limited when it comes to overclocking, the more expensive P5Ks fill in that gap there.

If your max is around 80quid on an mb I would suggest going for a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R or MSI P35 Neo2-FR for improved overclocking.

Also you can save a bit more and go for an E2160 instead of the more expensive E2200. An E2160 on any decent P35 board will hit 3ghz with minimal effort!

The rest looks spot on :)

ok thanks for the replies guys.
I have ordered today, getting the parts from 3 etailers altogether, including OCUK.
I stuck with the ASUS P5k as i needed firewire and won't be clocking too highly. I got the P5KR version, which has extra RAID functions.

From OCUK i got the Leadtek GeForce 8800 GT ZL OC 512MB and some OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 RAM.
A funny thing happened: whilst i was checking out, the price of my order dropped £15. I thought I had done something wrong so i checked the prices in a new browser window. Turned out that those 2 items had just become deals of the week lol.
lucky me!
