Do you believe in Black Magic?

Wrong, there are no bottles involved.

If you want to be pedantic, no-one said the genie had to be in a bottle or a lamp for that matter, but there is nothing stopping a genie from being in a bottle, unless the genie union has some stange rules relating to not reinforcing misguided western sterotypes.

They are a work of fiction anyway, so I don't think they are going to get upset about me putting them in bottles.

A genie and a djinn are not the same thing.

The genie union do have rules and regulations, did you not hear about their protest for better working conditions? This ruled out bottles and lamps forever. :P

But still. A Djinn and a genie are technically not the same. Varies culturally, and in this context a Djinn and a genie are most definately not the same.

Voodoo is in fact used to heal the sick, not kill people. Which of courses it does not.

It has almost killed me on a few occasions....with laughter.

The whole voodoo, black magic and wicca thing is quite laughable, especially when you see people (probably unemployed) dancing around the fire and casting spells in an attempt to stick it to show everyone how alternative and profound they are.

"By the powers of air, fire, water and earth, I release this spell. I ask the Goddess for help this day....TAKE THAT SOCIETY!"

Dunno if I believe in Black Magic or not - I've never seen anything that would suggest it does or doesn't.

What I do believe however is that those who do try to practice Black Magic can end up damaging themselves psychologically.

What does this mean? It confused me. :(

And yeah I should've written should there, good call.

P.S. Whoever said djinn come out of bottles, you're wrong. :p

There, fixed that for you :)

This thread will go the same way it always does, those with blind faith in the scientific method and it's assumptions stating over and over that it's impossible and irrational without stopping to think what these terms mean and how they are derived from the method.

For those who have said it's irrational, what's your take on esoteric martial arts, such as Qigong?

Being your friendly neighbourhood Gypo, Of course i believe & if any of you ***** mess with me I'll throw a Gypsy curse your way & Proper **** you up.

A genie and a djinn are not the same thing.

The etymology if the words is the same, one is a westernisation of the other - Genie, Djinni, Jinni, Djinn, Jinn all form the same root and spellings changed according to different translations.

If there is a difference then what is it?

Yeah but you don't go calling a djinn a genie and vice-versa since they're completely different.

This stuff is easily available through Google or Wikipedia.

I think that Pratchett makes a lot of sense with 'Headology' - That the more power you believe something has the more likely it is to have an effect.

I do also believe there is stuff out there that we don't know everything about. I really doubt black magic has anything much to do with it though.

Rossi - No actually he isn't WRONG you just believe different things. You can in fact both be right as it's impossible to proove either.

I love how we're debating whether one piece of fiction (genie) is or is not the same as another piece of fiction (djinn). Like it matters, lol!

This thread has brightened up my day no end. Carry on!

wasn't that the name of that guy in star wars

nah only joking isn't that like Ti Chi (how ever you spell it), there just easy way to strengthen muscles and things like your cardio vascular system. i don't believe in all that chi and flowing energy stuff.
