Gervais attacks tax exiles

Gosh I dislike him. I dont think anyone has much of a problem paying tax its necessary. We (I) Just dont like how much i have to pay in tax, it keeps me poor.
 
Yes, because his comments aren't aimed at desperately bolstering his image. Gervais is fast getting on people's **** for actually being the character he played in The Office.

Either that or he just can't get a decent tax advisor.

How many stars could really care? The news would rather report on someone getting pregnant then someone laying into Tax dodgers.
 
Can't stand the bloke (or his shows) - he's always on about how much he earns - every interview/show I've seen him on has him brings it up and then goes on about how it doesn't matter to him etc :rolleyes:
 
He is very funny but I don't always 100% agree with him. I agree with the argument about using charities to boost careers etc. I had such admiration for Jeremy Beadle after I found out how much he'd raised for charity out of the public eye. If you raise money for charity it should be for just that ..

I'm shocked, appalled and amazed, how very cynical of you.

He might be saying it because of a moral belief in the value of paying tax, he probably isn't and will only be saying it to try for some publicity but we could give him the benefit of the doubt here. For what it matters, I don't like Ricky Gervais much, he ranks in my top 5 least funny people on TV but that is not really the point.

:confused: I don't think he's saying that at all. I'm sure if he wanted to he could move to Switzerland like Lewis Hamilton, but credit to him for not doing so.
 
I too don't have a problem paying tax, but I do have a problem with how my hard earned money is spent.

If only I could choose where my tax was being spent i.e. to help the terminally ill, our war veterans, homeless children maybe and not scumbags who's aim is to continually reproduce to see how much benefit they can claim and what Cable TV package I can buy them.

OT though, I still find RG funny.

But that's not even a high percentage really, it's just the likes of the Daily Mail making you believe that anyone on benefits isn't hardworking.

"I've seen acts on Comic Relief whose tour starts the following day. It's disgraceful - but I won't name them."

He added: "If it all ends tomorrow, I'll run on Hampstead Heath, swim in my pool and polish my awards."

He's got some very fair points there, and fair play to him for speaking out the truth.

Yeah I'm sure the Government would just cut the tax for the rest of the public if all the rich folk started paying up. You are a bit naive if you think that is the case.

Quite a simple solution, flat band 20% for all and I'd bet most of the rich folk would stop their creative accounting techniques. But in this country the government penalise those who are successful and much of that money is given to those who can't be bothered to work, so these evil rich folks will look to save in whatever way they can. How on earth they can justify taking almost 40% of one persons earnings and 22% of another I do not know. Paying tax is not a problem, this country would not function if people stopped paying but how about a crackdown on all those people claiming benefits when they aren't entitled to it, if there is nothing wrong then they should be forced to work, whether that is cleaning toilets or whatever. Going on the dole while out of jobs is ok, you are entitled to it but what about those who have been on it for 5-10 years and have no intention of finding work? Maybe a cut down on the freebies they are handing out to the immigrants would help as well? For example why is a person who came from Afghanistan 10 years ago being paid £1600 a month in benefits and been given a British passport? I don't know if this is true or not but in Canada I once heard that immigrants are given 6 months of benefits and after that they have to survive by themselves or go away. This country is a soft touch and most of these immigrants are calling their friends and family over because of that.

Instead of moaning about the rich sort the real problems out. If you start annoying the super rich they will take their business elsewhere and they will make their money elsewhere but this country will suffer. Much of the large commercial and residential sector is dependant on these super rich foreigner pouring money into the economy.

Hmmm, a lot of people say that, but i've never really seen where your getting your information from, unless you know him personally. Regardless, in my eyes he just says what he wants and doesnt worry about the repercussions or peoples opinions, which is refreshing and something i admire.
