Is the QX9650 worth it?

Even with a chip that expensive i think you are going to find it hard to get it to run at 4.5ghz

4.0 to 4.2 is a realistic goal imo, many would agree that the chips are a rip off.

for a cpu that costs so much you should be able to get at least 1ghz more over sane priced chips, but as usual that wont happen.

i say rather get q6600 and if you have q6600 wait till nahelm chips. i think its not worth buying it.

maybe if you like sponsored by intel and get one for free :)

600£ is big money well for me anyways

Personally I think you need at least water to make the cost of these processors worthwhile anyway.

I'm already on water & my Q6600 hits 3.9 no problem, but the volts are not to my liking.

And yes, you guys are right £600 is a lot of money for a this CPU. What was I thinking. (still tempted though)

I can remember when I paid about 4 or £500 for my fx55 clawhammer cpu 3yrs ago. What a fool I was.

I remember when I bought my FX53 when they were first released, for me it was a fantastic purchase as it lasted me absolutely ages...until I got a C2D X6800 I believe!

Thanks,

Scott C

Well I upgraded my fx55 last summer, so my £400-£500 lasted about 2yrs and a half

QX9650 is the first time I can remember for a long time where you will be able to get a significantly better overclock over non extreme models on air/water. Depends if that extra 400-500MHz is worth an extra £300 to you.

Or you could wait for the QX9770 at the best part of a grand :p

I think the Q9450 is the one people will go for ,me included and if you get a good clocker then that will be good value , hoping its like the q6600 with extra cache

I have got a ASROCK intel board coming till the X48 is out,but i dont think i`ll run my QX9650 in that :D

Still got the case, just didnt get any interest tbh.
