My modest home cinema/living room setup

I still can't believe you can just PVC and skim over artex, every single "specialist" I asked about my flipping swirlies on the ceiling said it was pretty much steam and chilsel down with unfortunate addition of hazard suits unless I could prove newer artex without asbestos was used...

I think I'm going to buy myself float for next week and start training on those darn swirlies...

This is the little room under the stairs that will house all my equipment.

Such as
Vista HTPC
PS3
Xbox 360
Sony Amp
Octavia 5x2 hdmi/optical splitter
3tb online storage.
Sky+

The back end of the room, the washing machine will be coming out (hopefully tonight)

The top end where the shelves will be

This is the back view of the core drill hole behind the tv to accomodate cables.

And a close up shot inside the hole...as you can see if fits perfectly with the AV panel on the TV.

I've just this minute given the room a quick coat of paint. Ill be doing a 2nd coat a bit later.
Im painting it the same colour as the living room.

Cheers

we had our dining room ceiling skimmed over artex that was like an upside down mountain range, truely horrific. nice and flat now :)

nice pics btw, keep em coming.

Dude, i found this thread by accident when i searched for "xbox 360 controller for windows". Your thread was amongst the searches found with the word "for" in it ????? Go figure

I have to say, this is probably the most inspiring thread i've read on OCUK forums. Its fantastic, and my hat goes off to you for your labour of love.
Your progress reports are brilliant and i can't wait to see the fininshed result.
You da man !! or monkeh ! :D

Nothing that exciting tonight.

I got my new screen up. Its 100" diagonal (near enough)

I thought id take a few screenshots of the unit in action.
Ive not yet changed any of the settings as the bulb hasnt wore in yet. But its pretty decent out of the box to be honest.

Excuse the wonky pics, i have so much stuff around the place i can barely move at the moment.

Which is a gimmick.
Hardly a gimmick. They certainly improve the colours for the vast majority of people (including pretty much every reviewer that i've read a review of). Still, it is not something that is needed and would probably annoy some people.

Awesome job. I like that the hole is positioned spot on for the TVs AV Sockets. No need to buy cables until you know you need them.

can the ps3 and xbox 360 controllers work through walls?

you say the ps3 and 360 will be in the room in the back, so im just wondering how they will work since they use bluetooth? bluetooth is quite weak only 10m or something so i doubt it could penetrate walls.

i love the setup, my cousins had a similar sort of thing done in one of their living rooms, it was done by a professional company though, no idea how much it cost them but i know their pioneer plasma cost 3-4 grand, the had their speakers mounted inside the ceiling though not beside the tv, you can only see the cones of the speakers sticking through the roof (i think their are between 4-6 cones and a sub in the corner), since all of their wiring is hidden inside walls, its very hard hard to add any new kit to the system, like connecting a ps3 for example, they only have 1 scart socket which is easily accessible, all the others are in use or cant be gotten to, if they ever wanted to upgrade they would most likely have to call the company out to do it.
