Feeling Under The Weather

it really is odd how many people there are that live in or around swindon!, is a small world :D sorry dont have any advice really, you could try being ill and sneezy on or near the manager he will probably send you home due to your being near and serving food. p.s frankie and bennies next door is better than chiquitos ;)!

First my mum had it (shes 71) - so was pretty bad. I spent from Sat-Monday looking after her and dad, and generally getting stuff for them etc.

Then my son had it from Tues-today (he's 2) - so we had 3 days of a screaming grouchy child who hardly slept at night because he couldn't breathe properly. As the wife was on nights the last 3 nights, I got about 8 hours sleep in total and was up every morning at 6.30.

Funnily enough, I now have it, and spent most of last night sweating buckets and in a half sleeping-like state with nightmares and shivering.

Great week all in all (good job im off) - but I seem to have the mildest dose of it. Just a really runny nose and sore back/shoulders. Only thing I like taking is coffee and lots of fruit. I rarely take medication (as it just prolongs it)

I dont think its better, tbh, mainly because Ive been in there a couple of times before and they've had flies in the puddings. and they're leeches and insincere.

I think if I went in and showed willing, then they'll think I look alright, put me on the floor, and if I say to them I'm feeling really bad they wont send me home because I'd be there already type thing.

Grr.

Mmmm lovely.

I've just rung up after reading through the manuals about sickness and the fact that Im like this and going to be serving and things is unhygenic etc, so i rung them to ask if it was plausible to go in feeling this way or would they prefer it if I didnt?

And they just said if I dont feel up to it then I dont need to.

Which is ok, but it's my first day and I havent even started yet, and I dont want to create a bad impression already, but I also dont want to work if there's no point in going in.

Any thoughts?
:(

I think you're more likely to show a bad impression if you turn up ill. They could end up with complaints from people saying it's unhygienic etc.

I would stay home and recover today.

Thats a very good point.

Would you do that? Even though it's your first day and you havent started there properly yet?

Definitely, I would be to worried about people having a go at me for coughing near their food or something. Some people can be really fussy and especially with it being Valentines, one of the busiest days for restaurants.

Very true. Very True.

But I'd be scared that they'd not hire me or even sack me for not going in on my first day, but I'm being professional about it and asked them if it was better if I didnt? not that Im not coming in - that's it al all about it.

I would ring up again but I wouldnt know what else to say; I asked the bloke when could I work with them again then? and all he said was

"We'll let you know."

Which unnerved me a bit to say the least.

I still think you should go in and let them judge...that way it proves you aren't making it up and can't be bothered to go in. Plus it shows dedication - offer to help out in another way for example.

Pot wash maybe. You don't have to be extra hygienic for that

If it was me, i would have gone in early and spoke to the manager, explained it all and heard what he/she had to say. This will show your sick call is genunine, and not so you can sod off down the pub with mates.

Calling in sick wont look good, just make sure you apologise when you finally start.

My job isnt kitchen stuff though, I'm waitressing or running for other waitresses which means carrying the food/drinks etc.

But I could go in to show dedication... but I've come to the conclusion that, if im too ill to go in, as people may complain about the fact, I could rest up for today but ring them tomorrow asking if I could work then if I dose myself up and rest up today that way they'll see I'm eager to work for them still, plus I rung them to ask if I could still go in not that I'm not going in because of X. And they left it down to me, which is something I'm finding difficulty with deciding.

Down the pub? =/ I dont think so! And if I could have gone in earlier today I would have done that and not bothered to ring them, I dont live exactly close to it in the first place.

Stand up straight, look up at about a 45degree angle, close your eyes and smile......yes a real big cheesy grin.

Stand like that for about 20 seconds and you will feel much better.

Seriously try it.

Im going to rest up today since they said they dont mind and if I dont feel up to it not to.
Im going to go in early tomorrow and explain and ask them when can I start, or even "could i start today please?"
