you say you have had the tanik under a month and have had a fish die, have you cycled your tank yet? If not then this could explain your death and could lead to more!
Read here (awesome site)

just use a gravel vac from your local fish shopnever, ever wash your filter sponges in tap water as this will kill the bacteria that keep the tank clean! a dirty filter is a happy filter as they say

[SKR]Phoenix;11100554 said:Yeah I am using Co2 as well as ferts. Also a huge amount of light over a 11 hour period each day.
Additionally, around 50% water change each week. The wood is a year old and still leaching tannins - although only very slightly.
nice, after a co2 kit myself - either a JBL one or a D-D compressed one. only got 1WPG light though and cannot see how you can upgrade the standard juwel lightingmay just change lighting to 11 hours a day and replace the standard juwel tubes :s
what ferts are you using?
[SKR]Phoenix;11100988 said:You running T8 tubes? Juwel now do T5 lighting units which can help a lot! Additionally you can get a 3 flap set for the top which lets you use two lighting units. 4 T5 tubes under the hood should give you plenty of light.
I think the light unit is about £60 and the tubes about £25 each depending on size. The 3 flap set if £16 ish.
Then of course there's Co2 and you realise that this really can become an expensive hobby.
As for ferts, I use Flourish Excel and Flourish Iron. I don't use undergravel ferts at all, and as my pics show, it's not really needed.
Good lighting, Co2 and Liquid Ferts should see you with a well planted tank.
