Next week I am staying a few days in the lakes for a bit of a walking holiday, can anyone recommend some really good (and unusual) locations for some shots?

I have never been to the lakes with my camera before but this time I'm determined to get something good.

Hello there fellow Darlingtonian. (Im actually an Aycliffian but work in Darlo) :) Most of the lakedistrict has good shot potential. But around Derwent is particulary nice.

Edit; Lol, just realised who you are. I work with you! Doh! :D

Edit edit; and you'll want to make your sig text fit onto 1 line;

You may use a signature (commonly used in email messages) in your posts. You can specify in your profile a signature to use at the bottom of your posts. When you post, there is an option to use your signature. A signature may contain one or more images but they must fit within a box with maximum dimensions of 400 x 75 pixels (width x height) and with a maximum (combined) file size of 20k. Images containing mostly very large words or animated .gifs will not be permitted. You may also add 1 consecutive lines of normal or smaller text directly above or underneath the image with no spaces inbetween image and text. If no images are used then up to 4 consecutive lines of normal or smaller text is permitted. Do not pad out your text lines with blanks lines. A line of text is defined as having a maximum length of 400 pixels.

keep away from the touristy areas, too crowded.
Head up towards keswick as mentioned.
Then try the Langdales, heading over Rhino's and Hardnott Pass.
Kirkstone pass is also worth a look.

Agreed... lovely locations.

I like Buttermere also.

If you find yourself in Windermere village itself and don't mind jostling with the other tourists for a parking place then a walk up to Orrest Head provides a panoramic view of Lake Windermere itself.

Orrest head is well worth a look, but watch out it's windy as hell up there!

Look for Castlerigg stone circle too, if you get it at the right time of day I think you could make some excellent atmospheric photos there.

Keep eyes peeled as you drive around lakes for laybys with paths leading from them, we found some that led to nice little canopied areas on the lakeshores that were always deserted and always beautiful :)

Aira Force, waterfall near Ullsawater - well worth a trip but prepare for lots of spray!

I'd forgotten about Aira Force:

Also, as Shoei stated above, Kirkstone's worth a look too:

Well it's Windermere that I am staying so I'll definately get to Orrest Head in that case, Thanks for all the tips, I'm going to make a list of the places mentioned to take with me, and those are some great looking spots in the pictures you've all posted.

Oh and Mr Khan, well done for working it out :D

So I'm back from the lakes and here are some of the results, I am really pleased with some of the photos, here are just a handful of the un-edited pictures! Time for some photoshop fun me thinks!

Okay, here's number 2, thanks i will hopefully have time to edit some soon, I'm busy re-decorating the office/backroom so only have access to the laptop at the moment :(

That one is a cracking shot. Really nice.

Some of them need a bit of editing, but as you said, these are straight off the camera - the last of the linked ones is a bit overexposed and some could maybe do with a slight contrast and saturation increases imo.

Yes that one does need calming down a wee bit, i wanted to catch some movement of the water so I used a slightly longer exposure. Unfortunately I have a fairly limited camera so Photoshop is my only salvation.

I came away with quite a few more photos which I am going to play with eventually so I will put up a link once I've done some. Glad people are liking the results so far :)
