It was assumed to be quasi-multiplayer. I am sure they said that other peoples races/creatures/civilizations would be uploaded to a database and then on single player the client would download the user created content.

Yeah the player created content will still be streamed into your world, but none of it is multiplayer based. So no one can affect your world in anyway.
It's literally just player created content populating the worlds you visit, which you can rate.

Edit: Two new videos up on GameVideos...

http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/17505 (just part 1 for now I think)

Good preview as well...

that's fine then? I always expected that, didn't expect the multiplayer bit.... though it would be the best game ever if you and a friend could slowly build up in different corners of the universe and create things together, but casually.

Yeah I think they tossed the idea around about having MP, but the casual gamer might go away for a week, then come back to their world and it's been destroyed by some hardcore gamer who's been playing 24/7.

The whole game looks poo imo, when I first read about it I thought: Wow, an advanced strategy game, now I see it's all a little kiddies game.

I thought the city stage would be like sim city kind of, the world stage like civ 4 kind of, and the galaxy stage like sins or like botf or like space empires 4 or something like that, so I thought it'd be many great games in 1 but this is a joke, for a 6 year old. I mean ''partypalace'' and those bright coloured creatures, wtf... I expected a high difficulty steep learning curve simulationish MASSIVE scale ''as realistic as possible'' game.

Gfx look very primitive too, not just childish, but just VERY old too...

It will still be amazing, but EA will ruin it rather quickly with holding back content all the time for crappy expansions

Hopefully not, the whole idea behind the game is user created content, this is Will Wrights big idea, to have a world where content is made by the player. No doubt EA will find some way to make money off it though if it's successful.

I think this game is gonna be great. I wouldn't care if it looked like pong tbh. The concept is awesome, and if Will Wright is to be believed, the freedom it gives you will be unparalleled. Poo graphics don't bother me as long as the game actually has other redeeming qualities, which Spore seems to have plenty of.
I'll be pre-ordering it anyway.

I agree, it could have gone for the hardcore super realism.

However, by going cartoony, the graphics won't look out of date fast - Much like TF2 and evil genius.

I also think that EA had some input to this, much like the sims... it can then be played on low end pc's... making the market of people that can play it much larger - making more money.

I think that Will wright had a dream and its been diluted. I will still get it and I still think it is groundbreaking. I would never touch the "Civ" games no matter what age I am, because I think they are boring and complex. Something like this allows me to have fun with very little effort... much like the sims (which I hate) which has a big appeal to this casual market.

Team fortress doesn't look poo though, this does. TF2 looks nice and cartoony-ish, this looks like primitive 3d from 5 years ago. Kinda like all those mmo rpg's. I mean look at those trees and grass in the 2nd and 3rd, that's not cartoony, that's just childish 3d.

Shame you wouldn't touch civ, imo it's the one of best games ever made, more addicting than any game, mainly because it requires some thinking to get better ( there's no way a noob is going to jump in and beat a monarch ai or so, takes at least 100 hours of playing to start beating ''prince'' ai's under normall rules and map size).

But as I said, from the 2nd and 3rd pic it does not look cartoony at all. Cartoon don't have grass like that. It just looks like poorly made and childish 3d. Not funny at all like TF2's gfx.

Complaining about the grass when they're doing such amazing work with procedural generation is abit stupid.

I am not going to argue about graphics... the content is what matters. But you slander Spore's graphics... but you don't comment on Civ's amazing and jaw dropping visuals which don't look outdated at all....

It is also a shame that you won't play one of the best game concepts out there purely because it looks childish... I know that is hypocritical of me to say so, but at least I played and disliked Civ. Spore is a totally new concept with a huge scope... something which Civ lacks... as they have made several games all around the same theme, which are just revamps in my opinion.

Disclaimer - I can't even tell the difference between any of the Civ game graphics... so please correct me if the screen shots above aren't the same game? Civ1/2/3/4/+

You should, civ4 is a TBS, it could be played with 16 colours and still be the same game, spore is a game where gfx count. You have to design creatures, see how your worlds will work out, see how your cities and planet grows, etc. I do not want to build some stupid party palaces, I want to build battleships and new weapons (not even how they look, I just want to design the functions) that will cause the blood to splatter out of the body's of the enemy. I want to enslave all the opposite party's and personally hit them with a whip to see scars on their backs. I want to see a bloody game at least not a game where all are ''happy'' monsters.

What great concept? Create a great toy world? It's not a new concept, it just brings loads of older games together, dumbs the lvl down, and releases it under a new name.

Saying all civ games are revamps is like saying Doom3 and UT3 and CoD4 are the same.
You are way too inexperienced with the genre to have an opinion about that.
I can't see what civ4, a turn based strategy game, has to do with spore however.

Also to your last comment, I suggest you go to an optician then. If you can't tell the difference between civ1, 2 3 and 4.

Also, why do you compare the gfx of one of the newest games that isn't even out yet with a game that is 7 years old ( the top pic ) and a pic consistent of many pics form a 7 year old game and a 3 year old game wich doesn't have it's gfx maxed out even.

I do not care about procedural generation, I care about strategy and tactics, not about creating characters and how they look. In all games that have let me design objects/living things I always just rushed that stage, when I played the sims creating the characters was always the most boring for me and I rushed it off, same for spaceship looks creation in Galactic civs2. Puzzling together something nice may be nice ( eg. sim city 4) but creating creatures etc is boring especially when you don't like the way they can look ( all childish etc...).

The pics make it look so childish, that I have doubts it has any good strategy and tactics in.

The only reason I said my hopes aren't high is because I know how much potential it has, however it would be foolish to presume that it's going to deliver everything it's promised in a flawless manner.

Having high hopes lays a great foundation for bucket loads of disappointment.

This really isn’t the game for you then. To even expect a hardcore strategy game on this level is insane TBH.
I would like to know what you read in the first place to make you believe it was going to be like that anyway. Every single preview and video has shown it with the same style graphics and cutesy gameplay.

the point about civ is that it is as hard or as easy as you want to make it - hence the difficulty levels and handicaps and different ways to win. it can cater to everyone from the quickie free timer to the hardcore strategist.

i agree with mr.sly, i've never seen anything that's shown it as a blood and gore game? and how in depth strategy wise can this type of game be?
