hi i reciently built a ddr2 system with 2gb ddr677 memory speed wolfdale 3 gig d, and cpu, and asus p5k prem board, the stats were cpu 5.6 and mem 5.9, so took the leap and upgraded to p5e3 board with ocz ddr3 1333 memory 2gb and the scores refreshed i still get the same scores, my friend has a 2.66 with ddr3 1066 and p5b board and gets 5.7 on cpu, ive even installed the latest chipset drivers ect but dam thing dont make any diff and i feel ive wasted 250 on upgrading, anyone know why the cpu score is different.

Cause even MS have admitted that the scores are rubbish, in fact I heard there was an update to the windows experience index with SP1 but am not sure if it made it.

5.9 with quad at 3.3Ghz. It doesn't mean anything though so I hope you didn't shell out for X38 chipset and DDR3 for the sake of vista experience score..?

My E8400 o/c'd to 4.15Ghz:

5.9 ;D

I know vista scores mean nothing, but its nice to have all 5.9s lol

thought id change since ddr3 was ment to b better but it isnt , wish id stuck to my ddr2 setup, might oc it, what speeds would a stock fan get? ive got a arctic freeze but dam thing wont fit on mb, now to read oc guide

DDR3 has really slack timings, but high frequency. Thing is, even the fastest quad core only has a 1600mhz FSB, and 800mhz DDR2 in a dual channel motherboard is a 1:1 bandwidth match. Nothing more is needed. You'll even get tighter timings with DDR2 so probably better performance.

Of course higher speeds are nice for overclocking, but the only Intel chip with a 1600mhz FSB is an Extreme edition, with unlocked multipliers, so you dont need to up the FSB speed anyway.

DDR2 goes up to 1066 now, mebee faster I cant be bothered to check... Well in dual channel thats good enough for FSB 2132. Thats the same as setting the motherboard to 533mhz, even with a chip like the E6300 which only has a x7 multiplier your still talking 3.72Ghz. There really isnt much need for DDR3 at the moment, unless motherboards go back to single channel mode. In theory single channel mode offers latency advantages as its a simpler design, but it needs superfast ram, which generally more expensive, compared to running 2 cheaper slower sticks in dual channel.

i think it as.. because before i install sp1 rc1 my cpu score gets 5.8, but after installing sp1 rc1 it gets 5.9..

goes up to 1200MHz ...

Yup, people may not be buying DDR3 today, but they certainly will be in the future.
As DDR3 prices drop and/or timings improve, it will definetly be the performance choice.
