So I've had the PS3 a couple of days now...............

I agree with the OP, after an hour of Motorstorm my right hand is in agony. You have to grip the pad tightly with your two smallest fingers and the bass of your thumb, otherwise you can't keep your finger on the trigger because the shape of the trigger doesn't keep your finger in place. Even doing this my finger still slips off the trigger and I'm constantly having to adjust my hand position. Pick up your PS3 pad, pull the right trigger fully and press X hard and tell me that's comfortable.

Same thing with Drakes, after an hour my left thumb is sore from having to stretch over to the left analogue stick. The d-pad is used so little now so IMO it shouldn't be the primary control.

The reason peope are noticing this is because there's now a better ergonomic (although nowhere near perfect) pad to compare to, plus the PS2 pad didn't have these awful triggers. It does look like Sony put little effort into the PS3 pads. Surely all the testers (assuming they tested it) told them the triggers curve the wrong way

It's not 'deal breaking' bad though, I still think the PS3 is a good piece of kit overall.
Weird, I never had any problems when playing Drake's or Motorstorm, nor have the triggers ever been an issue.
I don't think there's any right or wrong here tbh, it must simply suit some hands a lot better than others.

I have big hands (well long fingers anyway) so you would think a big controller like the 360's would suit me better, but it makes my thumb ache after prolongued use.

I think some of it is down to the way you grip the controller too. It's a little like the old "which gaming mouse" discussions you used to get in the PC games section. Chose the one which is more comfy for your style of play. I tend to hold things losely so I prefer the Razor Diamondback whereas other people to like to grip the mouse seem to prefer the more moulded logitech mice. The same principle can be applied to game controllers too. I think people who grip the controller will prefer 360 whereas people like me who have a loser grip will prefer the PS3's.

That actually does pan out, I tend to grip the pad quite loosely, so maybe that's the trick.

mmmmmm I really don't know mate, when I pull those triggers with my thumbs resting on the analogue sticks it just feels soooooooooooooooo wrong, the pad just wants to keep slipping back, it's even worse when your hands become sweaty.

There has to be a way to get the 360 pad to work on the ps3, there has to be, whats is actually technically stopping it from working on there atm ?

Have you ever thought that its your hands at fault :)

(Im seriously kidding)

In truth though, some hands are just not right for either controller - however much I play the x360, I get hand ache from the controller within no time at all, on the ps3 one I have no problem at all

I have no doubt others (maybe even majority) have the opposite problem :)

i really like the PS pads, the standard PS3 pad is ok if a little light. the DS3 pad in my opinion is superb, well made, weightly and with the rumble great for playing all the PS3 games I have.

well for anyone interested this months PSM3 and PSW magazines have the concave trigger adapters for the sixaxis free. Out today by the way.

Just been out and bought PSM3 magazine for these extra trigger buttons - I don't even have a problem with them as standard, but I'm an upgrade'aholic so couldn't help myself! :D

Love the ps3 pad myself and hate the 360 pad. But i dont acutally like using analog at all and wont if i have a choice lol. The Digital pad on the 360 contoller is horrible and totally in the wrong place for me. I also find that the analog sticks tend to drop into possition when i dont want them to. Dont have that problem on my ps3 contoller. Personal pref totally tho

Obviousley not my photo skills, but they are the same ones. They are black though not grey.

Called REAL TRIGGERS and made by Gioteck.

The triggers that you get with the psm3 magazine make a big difference sony should have shaped the triggers like that in the first place.
I dont no why the company that make them dont just sell them they would make a fortune.
They must have done a good deal with the magazine.

Never had any problems with the Dreamcast pad once I got used to it, Never had any problems with the 360 pad, PS2, Sixaxis or Dual Shock 3 (Though my SixAxis was crap compared to the DS3)

I did however have a problem with the original Xbox (big fat thing), and the Atari Jaguar controllers :p

Personally I think its all about adjusting to a new pad and getting used to it, I'm not a tool I can use any pad :D

I like this explanation, I've also said similar in mice debates in general hardware, I never thought to apply it to game pads also, it does make sense, I do prefer something that is more ergonomic and fills my whole hand which would make explain things, the PS3 pad doesn't fill your hand, your palms are left empty, you hold the pad more loosely using the top half of your hand like the old Razor mice.

Is it weird that I have a Razer mice yet love the 360 pad and hate the sixaxis then? :p

No I don't think joebob (or I mean that), I'm not saying that if you love the razor mice your love the PS3 pad but rather apply the same reasoning behind why some people prefer ergonomic mice (Logitech G5) over a finger mouse (Razer Diamondback) or vice versa and it does seem to make sense.

when i hold the ps3 pad as i am now my little fingers keep it in place and my trigger fingers rest on the top edge of the trigger buttons. like between L1-L2 the lil space between them. feels fine to me lol and i can use the triggers easy,

Just popped the trigger things on my DS3 and I like it. Definately feels better now. :D

Gonna give it a test drive on Burnout after me dinner - will get back to you with a more informed opinion in a while.
