So I've had the PS3 a couple of days now...............

i think the ps pads are absolutely fine. my only problem is the triggers, but thats only because i prefer buttons... its a trade off as triggers is good for stuff like racing but its crap for beat em ups.

Never had a problem with the Sixaxis, even though the Dualshock 3 feels much better to use and made than my original release one. Personally i dont like the 360 pad much, but i guess it because im not used to it, which is the opposite to some. Anyway saw this posted the other day http://www.nyko.com/nyko/products/?i=119# . Not sure what its like and if its any good but its has motion control and rumbled enabled, the triggers look different and the analogue sticks have a dimple that some people prefer. Seen it for £35 which is a bit more than a DS3 i would try before you buy but it may solve some of the issues people have with the Sixaxis.

The PS3 controller is the sole reason I havent bought one yet, i just cant gety to grips with it, every time I try and give it another go I just end up hating it even more.

Ive never had a problem with the PS3 pad, I think its just what you get used to as I also dont like the 360 pad.
Ill get a DS3 when they eventually come to the UK but until then im happy, ive just been sat here with a PS2 and PS3 controller to see if I think they feel different and apart from the triggers having more movement on the PS3 pad they feel identical to me.
Ive got large hands so dont have a problem with reaching for the triggers and it just feels...normal.

Then you'll probably never get one.:( You can use PS2 controllers if you really want.:)

I think a lot of this is just down to be more used to one controller than another. I know that when I first started using a 360 controller i hated it because it felt so wrong. After time I got used to it though and actually quite liked it. Still prefer the PS controller though, probably becasue I'm so used to the design that it's like an old friend.

I never have any problems with the triggers, shoulder buttons or analogue sticks. in fact i find the analogue sticks more comfortable on the PS controller as it ust feels more natural to me.

Threads like this just go to show that there is no right or wrong controller - it's just personal choice.

What I would like to know is, how come a lot of forum users bemoan the fact that they can't use the PS3 controller but somehow magically were able to use the same controller during the PS2 days.

I've never liked the controller, ever.

thats right, it is a personal choice:) it just so happens that it doesnt sit well with a vast amount of people. id certainly say the majority probably arent happy with them.

I think the xbox 360 controller is the best controller I have ever held, I remember thinking the dreamcast one was amazing as well, but I think the xbox one tops it.

the dreamcast pad was a monstrosity! not enough buttons (6), had triggers instead of buttons, front buttons were too small and the handles gave me cramp :(

IMO the 360 controller is far better than the Six-axis one, especially for FPS type games. That's why I use a PS2 pad for all FPS on the PS3 :)

It's the trigger buttons mainly that cause the problem, but also I find the sticks too loose on the six-axis where as my PS2 pad is fine (+ at £8 it's a lot cheaper)...

Ok, so here's a possible solution.

I have one of these...

and it works great on the PS3 (obviousley no SIXASIS functionality though).

So why not get one of these...

as I'm sure it will actually work with the PS3 too.

when i used my ps2 a lot back in the day i never really minded the controller all that much. it used to annoy me how my fingers slipped off the analogue sticks after a few hours of playing though but it wasnt that bad.

but since ive got used to the xbox 360 pad i just cant use a ps2/3 pad anymore (especially i dont like the weight of the ps3 pad, just feels wrong). Best pad ive used was probably the N64 pad, but i do like my 360 controller.

I agree with the OP, after an hour of Motorstorm my right hand is in agony. You have to grip the pad tightly with your two smallest fingers and the bass of your thumb, otherwise you can't keep your finger on the trigger because the shape of the trigger doesn't keep your finger in place. Even doing this my finger still slips off the trigger and I'm constantly having to adjust my hand position. Pick up your PS3 pad, pull the right trigger fully and press X hard and tell me that's comfortable.

Same thing with Drakes, after an hour my left thumb is sore from having to stretch over to the left analogue stick. The d-pad is used so little now so IMO it shouldn't be the primary control.

The reason peope are noticing this is because there's now a better ergonomic (although nowhere near perfect) pad to compare to, plus the PS2 pad didn't have these awful triggers. It does look like Sony put little effort into the PS3 pads. Surely all the testers (assuming they tested it) told them the triggers curve the wrong way

It's not 'deal breaking' bad though, I still think the PS3 is a good piece of kit overall.

well for anyone interested this months PSM3 and PSW magazines have the concave trigger adapters for the sixaxis free. Out today by the way.

I honestly prefer the PS3 pad, the 360 one is definitely a nice pad and its more compfier in your hands but the PS3 pad feels a lot more responsive and almost raw like. Im use to the PS3 pad more though due to PS1 & 2 and i prefer having my thumbs in synq. Its kinda like driving a bently which is nice n relaxed and then driving a stripped out rally scooby impreza which is wild n fun. Well not quite lol.
