PC Gaming Is Dead!

PC gaming is obviouslly in decline, and will eventually fade out as the publishers of the games will just stop releasing them on pc platorm as they wont be making enough cash from them..

No no no no :o

Same old rubbish i've been hearing for the last 5years , the demand is there for console games... The demand is there for pc games , where there is demand there are products. The INDY game scene is thriving , MODS are thriving if you fail to see this then thats your fault.

What we need is a new rush of new RTS games only for pc, eg get the new total war game out asap, a new succesful age of empires 4, RA3 needs to be succesful, more supcom like games, CoH 2, etc...
Turn based too, I want Civilization 5 :).

And, we really an aniversary edition of mohaa.
Not crappy UE3 engined game, but OpenGL again like it should, all old maps remade and 15 exytra maps additionally.

Propblem is these days's games are way too small have too few maps compared to the old days, too short campaigns, too litttle units, etc... Renember MOH:A? I finished it in 5 hours :(.

Sins of a Solar Empire? :D

 How many more of these *PC GAMING IS DEAD!* threads are we going to have to suffer  PC Gaming is alive and well, no thanks to this thread.....

Jeez, keep out of the fuc**** thing then. What is it with people moaning about a thread that they dont even have to look at, let alone post in. The forum is big enough to avoid the thread.

PC gaming will never die, especially online. As much as I like xbox live theres something that keeps me coming back to the pc. Being a shooter fan I just think why play 16 player max when I can go on the pc and play games with over 40 players in, and mods galore.

He does have a point though... This topic has being brought up many times before.

I can't see PC gaming dieing anytime soon. So many genres of games are far superior on the PC, not just FPS and RTS. There's also more and more professional PC gaming going on every year with more large scale events all over the world sponsoring and promoting PC gaming. I think you just have to look at the great list of titles that have come out and succeeded over the last year to know PC gaming isn't in too much trouble. To name but a few:
COD4
crysis
WiC
Bioshock
TF2
Portal

And many many more. I think we are going to see even more of a move towards the steam style vending of games and I consider that a great thing but I certainly don't think we are seeing a decline in PC gaming. I still stand by the fact that Consoles are for fun and for sitting on the couch with a beer and mates. Serious man sized gaming is done on PCs and unless something big comes along that's not going to change imo.

You have just done exactly what you have quoted... :)

Thanks "willhub" :)

There have been a few PC developers focusing on consoles, but I can't see PC Gaming fading away until 2 particular companies go that way too - Blizzard and Valve.

.

Hard to avoid it when its on just about every damn forum and website and it happens EVERY year.. It usually has numorus members spouting scaremongering rubbish , if there was any proof to their claims pc gaming would've died YEARS AGO.

Are people forgetting Indy developers? and modification developers , its like they don't exist :(

I think World of Warcraft has more subscribers than Xbox Live.

That's one game.

Yes but one game is hardly going to sustain the pc gaming scene. The strength of a platform is measured in game sales, if people stop buying pc games (for whatever reason) then developers are more likely to take their games to where the money is.

True, the reason why I feel its declining other than "the sales are down" stats every year is that a lot of games released on xbox/ps3 dont move over to PC, I heard rumours a few months back that GTA4 was not going to be released on PC(although i know now it is, just later on pc) Also gaming prices are much lower on pc even new releases compare to a new PS3 or Xbox, sign that theres less demand?

But still, PC gaming isn't going anywhere, Epic are just annoyed that UT3 didn't do well.

That is all.

I dont think anyones saying it will disappear completely, but it is on a decline. We're seeing more console ports than ever and highly anticipated titles like Crysis and UT3 are selling poorly.

I reckon it will be dead in the next 5-7 years. In todays minimilistic generation, pc's are big clunky boxes that take up too much room and constantly need upgrading to play the latest games. A lot more households have an internet connection now compared to 5 years ago. This means most your mates are online with their xbox's or ps3's compared to 1 or 2 mates with their pc's. When you want to upgrade your pc, where do you go? I don't know anywhere within a 15 mile radius of where i live that will sell me an 8800gt.

As for the pc being better for the mods and graphics side of things, whilst actually true, i don't think this is going to be enough to keep the pc market afloat. The next xbox will be released in the next 3-4 years. Things are only going to get better for it. More intergrated features and so on.

Although this subject has been bought up many times before, i think it's kinda different this time round. I think Cliffy has a valid point in what he's saying and i hate to agree but thats just my opinion This whole online playing has really taken off with the 360 like nothing else. Pc gamers are realising you can get the same experiance on a console with all your mates with zero problems.

Take a look at crysis. 100% Dedicated pc game and look at the problems it had. Gamers bitching like kids because it wont run on their pc, this is enough to drive them to the 360 and maybe the developer too.

Personally i love pc gaming. I dont even own a 360 or ps3. I love crysis and never had a problem with it. Im just enjoying the whole thing while it lasts but im pretty confident the bubble is going to burst sooner or later. I only like shooting and racing games. If all i am going to get in the future from developers is ports from the 360 with slightly higher resolutions, i might as well get a 360. At least i dont have to buy a new G-card, mobo, ram and so on. just to play the game that the 360 can play anyway. I even know 3 pc gamers who have moved to the dark side. I think that explains a lot if you ask me.
