Internet dating scamming

I watched the tonight programme and was astounded at just how stupid people were. Sending thousands of pounds to people in Nigeria in the hope of love.

Now my question is, is getting money from people in this way legal, assuming you use your own identity and ask for money for legitimate thing such as upkeep etc etc. You could make thousands!!

Don't believe he was stupid enough to pay a further £6000. Now he's opted to be on the show to make some of the money back. Rather hide my face in shame.

The best bit was the person who got scammed by sending travel money (twice I think?), and then also fell for the "we give you X amount of money to transfer and you get a percentage", in one go
