Whats the gossip on the new cards

The most expensive cards are usually the fastest.... :) & new cards and up and coming this year are advertised on the web..

£100 - ish - ATI 3850 (pref 512mb)
£140 -ish - Nvidia 8800GT (pref 512 mb)
High end : ATI 3870 X2 or cheapest 8800 GTX you can find.

Edit : Sorry, I see you were looking more for upcoming releases. The next known one is the Nvidia dual card solution. How it will compare to the 3870 X2 in terms of price, power consumption, elegance of implemenation remains to be seen.
The Nvidia 9600 series will offer more efficiency, lower prices in the mid range, as do ati's new 386X series. Beyond this, there's not that much firm info.

Later this year the current 8800s are getting a die shrink and will be renamed the 9 series.

Apart from that it looks like the only new card will be the GX2.

Eh, but the GX2 is also a 14 month old 8800 on a die shrink and renamed a 9 series. :p

New cards are months away yet, both have still got more 2006 cards to release, those are expected in the next couple of months or so. :D

Yeah but it's a new card in that it will offer performance at a level higher than what nVidia currently have.

If ATi's die shrinks are anything to go by, the shrinks of the current cards will do nothing for performance.
