Right, I want to go on holiday to somewhere hot and tropical (that won't be in the rainy season) for the last two weeks in march
We quite like combing a city break (3-4nights) with a beach holiday (10nights) and have enjoyed going to bangkok/langkowi and kula lumpar/langkowi.
We enjoy diving and ideally want somewhere that is fairly cheap to eat out but that the hotels are of a high standard and on/very near a beach.

I am quite tempted by the Philippines, palawan looks very nice. Has anyone been and if so how did you find it and who did you book through.

Thanks

dubai??

I'm off there in july and have been doing some research and found that its the hottest time of the year and temperatures reach 50 celcius

Seems like there is a lot to do out there though, snowboarding, waterparks, beaches, desert buggying etc etc

Not too tropical but very hot, excellent hotels and cheap!

Depends on your budget, but Mauritius is beautiful at that time of year - so to is the Seychelles. They're not cheap places however. Dubai is an excellent choice too. The thing with Dubai - it makes a great central base.

Didnt think of costa rica, I'll have a look now. Not that interested in europe due to temperatues around this time of year. Europe is also easier to get to for shorter breaks so when I have less time off work later in the year the temperature will be better I may go for a short break.

Budget should be around 1k (1.5k if justified) per person inc flights. I did think about dubai, not to sure though as I have heard alcohol is expensive and you can only go to hotels to drink. I also prefer the tropical climate (green grass and white sand for the win). I have been to mauritius a few years ago (the missus did her elective there), I beleive the seychelles will be similar. If we do a city and then beach break I will be looking for better quality accomodation for the beach resort, stayed in the Tanjung Rhu Resort in langkowi (malaysia) last year so similar to that would be nice.

Can someone tell me what the appeal of Dubai is? Genuine question, I can't quite see the what the appeal is and I'd like to hear from someone who's been.

Yeah I would be interested to know why people go to dubai as well. I can see it being good for 3-5 days but is there enough to occupy you for a 10-14 day break? I suppose you could do dubai for 3-5 days and then the maldives for the remainder?

Cuba. Look for the Playa Pesquero hotel in Holguim province and spend some time in Havana - perfect for your requirements. Great country, you can do as much or as little as you want and even with the internal flights to Havana, should be doable for budget.

Modern, clean, safe, technologically advanced and "user-friendly" for Westerners, with all the usual tourist attractions: historical buildings, exotic culture, vast beaches, and luxurious hotels & resorts.

Not quite my sort of thing (too hot, for a start!) but probably a pleasant change to rubbing shoulders with the chav crowd in Ibiza or southern Turkey.

Right then I have the following shortlisted:
1. Cuba - Need to do some more research
2. Costa rica- Need to do some more research
3. Philippines - Has anyone been and if so how did you find it (and did you go to palawan).
