II cannot get this card working! It's plugged in black pci-e slot with 8800gtx in blue. System won't boot with it in. Any ideas? Am i missing something? Can't see any config options for the pci-e slots in bios.

My raptor has just died on me after only 6 months, and i have some spare sas drives so would rather use those than buy another raptor.

I need advice!

For some reason recent Asus motherboards don't work right with drive controller cards, seen a few reports of this and experienced it myself trying to add a RAID controller to one of their G33 boards.

Bugger!

What's decent motherboard that will work with dell controller? Preferably with wifi. I have 3 x 300Gb seagate cheetah 15.k5 drives so want to get it working!

if you like Asus the p5w64 ws pro and p5wdg2 work with the Perc but of course that's older 975x chipset.

680i chipset boards in general work pretty good with the Perc apart from these i've mentioned it's mainly server type boards.

i myself just got a Perc 5/i the other day and plan to use it on either my DFI NF4 (which works also) or my 680i.

works on maximus x38 also but only with 3 dimms installed

Is the card and board running the newest bios? I've got a PERC 4e and its running in my P5KC just fine. I seem to remember a similar issue when using a badaxe2 board that was solved with an updated bios.

It's running 0705 which is the latest. This leads me to think that maybe I have something configured incorrectly in the bios?

Does the black PCIe slot share with any of the ordinary PCI slots? I do have a X-FI and the controller card for my Titan Amanda in the PCI slots.

I really don't want to have to change motherboard if I can help it.

I got the Raptor up and running again, but it's not a well bunny and I feel it will fail completely soon, so would be nice to get these SAS drives running on this board.

Cheers for any help anyone can give!

Does anyone know if the PERC 5/i will run fine in the MSI P7N Diamond board?

I'm thinking of ordering one...

Other option is that I have 2 80Gb 7200 SATA drives sat here, how would those in RAID 0 compare in performance to the single 150Gb Raptor that is now getting progressively worse and will definitely completely fail!

Also, is it just me that has problems using the SATA ports on the P5K Deluxe when a 8800GTX is fitted? The GFX card covers the SATA ports, and I can only get to ports 5 and 6....

What are you running off the back of the PERC 4e? That's external connectors? I also have a PERC 5e but can't find a suitable external SAS enclosure to use it with, without spending stupid money...

Not running any thing off the external connectors on either my 2 rigs that have a perc 4e card in. Just a lot of atlas II 15k drives internally.

I don't own SAS gear but can't you not build your own using an old case, psu and a port multiplier maybe? I was considering doing this with sata drives, but just built another box!

I had a mad spending spree today and went and bought an Asus Maximus Extreme, 2Gb of OCZ 1333Mhz DDR3 RAM and a new Raptor 150Gb... Oh, and a new Pioneer 215BK.

The Dell card is recognised in this board in the 3rd PCIe slot, but for some reason the drives are not recognised on it. It has no memory, and no battery so I may look into getting another PERC 5/i card. I can, however get into the PERC setup utility.

Anyone have any idea what the Supreme FXII sound is like? Wondering whether to stick with it or buy a new X-FI (PCIe) because the PCI one won't fit next to my 8800....

Have you had the card working before? Because I seem to remember reading that the cards just won't work properly without the memory module (though that could just be the LSI variant of the card and not the dell branded ones). Also can't you just rma the raptor as its only 6 months old and I swear they you get 5 yrs with them?

Can't help you with the sound card, last card I bought was an AWE64 gold!

I will RMA the card, but I needed another so I can salvage some of the data off the faulty one first...

This PERC 5/i card doesn't take a memory module, so I'm thinking it's some sort of cut down version? It's from a PowerEdge server that subsequently had it replaced with a PERC 5/e.

make sure the firmware on the card is upto date, update the firmware in another machine if you have to. I couldnt get the card to work in a DELL GX280, updated the firmware and the BIOS and boom it fired up.

The card will not work without memory.

My guess you have the PERC 5/i R which is stripped bare of features and I think only works in precision desktops.
