PC Gaming Is Dead!

True, the reason why I feel its declining other than "the sales are down" stats every year is that a lot of games released on xbox/ps3 dont move over to PC, I heard rumours a few months back that GTA4 was not going to be released on PC(although i know now it is, just later on pc) Also gaming prices are much lower on pc even new releases compare to a new PS3 or Xbox, sign that theres less demand?

GTA games have always come out later on the PC so that one cant be used as backup to claim PC is dieing.
PC games have always cost less than on consoles as they don't have to pay a fee to hardware makers like the console games do so cant be used as backup to claim PC is dieing.

And where have you been the last ten years to not already know this.

Erk. Do not follow the logic there mate.
PC gaming has a marvelous back catalogue but like you I find myself going back to a lot of games. I do this rather than buy or play the new releases as most don't do it for me anymore. Without going into full sepia tint, warburton's ad music, reminisce mode: PC gaming ain't what it used to be. The games that attracted me to the PC are no longer there and I find myself either relying on mods or retro gaming to get my jollies. I've gone from buying 3 or 4 games a month to maybe 8 or 9 a year.

The thing is that's not to say i'm not enjoying gaming. I'm still having a great time in BF2 and Mount & Blade but i'm just not buying new games and therefore putting a lot less money into the industry. I can't be the only one. Even 2 years after its release 100s of thousands are still playing Oblivion millions are grinding away in WoW and Civ4 is still scoffing up social lives.

I see what you mean but hundreds of thousands will be playing Crysis at the mo, If they brought out The Elders Scrolls V out then the people playing Oblivion would be playing that. the fact that the current crop of top games appear to be linear makes for finite gaming opposed to MMO's Oblivion X3 etc etc.

Well according to valve

"Valve has just announced that its game download store Steam now has over 15 million accounts, and that its year-on-year sales have now grown by 158 per cent. 'PC gaming is thriving,' said Valve's president Gabe Newell, while noting that the industry was shifting away from traditional hard copies of games to an 'era of constant connectivity.'

While PC game sales look pretty grim in comparison to those of console games in the official charts, these statistics often don't account for huge download services such as Steam, or subscription-based games such as MMOs. "

Source I Couldn't see any competitors links (mod please remove if you do)

That's a good point.

I'm sure a huge percentage of the Orange box were Steam sales, which are not accounted for. Same for other digital distribution games that are cropping up more and more.

Maybe its just you getting old? ;)

That wasnt my point tho, i know GTA games always come out later on pc, just saying that there were rumours that it wasnt which never normally happen(that i've heard of) and more and more games are coming out for all consoles but not coming out for pc

the most pointless threat ever, theres nothing to discuss, evidently not dead or ever going to be! unless government bans PC's or sth...

Both consoles and PC will have their place for gaming. Neither will disappear.

Having been a PC gamer all my life, I recently purchased a console. I love it and have hardly turned on my PC since. After the initial new toy phase, I know I will go back to my PC, especially for things such as FPS and strategy games.

I do think I will be spending more time on the console from now on though. Why? Cause I am sick of messing about with my pc. Its refreshing sticking in a disc, playing and not having to worry about tweaking settings - I can't help myself on the PC. Probably spent as much time tweaking things when I got Oblivion and Crysis as I did playing...

Am probably going to sell my quad and go back to dual core (though might jsut leave it as is), and then nothing in my system is getting upgraded at least until 2010. This from someone who has been upgrading something hardware-wise every few months.

The simplicity of consoles is what makes them so appealing. I know many comlain about the dumbing down of things - Hooray, I say! I want to play games! I wan to be able to relax and enjoy! I don't want things over-complicated. And I am sure many others feel the same.

But the PC will always be there for those that want it. Though it may become more a niche market, and ports (probably sloppy ones) will become more common-place.

I thought this in the first few weeks of getting my sexbox (Nov07) Then i spent a couple of weeks on Live getting shoved on High ping servers at random with squeeky voiced yanks playing against a Pathetic player count of say 8 a side.
Compare this to picking your own Free Low ping servers of up to 32 a side on BF2 & i think you'll get where i am coming from. Don't get me wrong the sexbox is a great console for instant pick up & play gaming but compare it to PC online & it Fails Big style.
I think this lull will come around well for the PC market as i see the sexbox being a stepping stone to PC gaming online. More people are picking up on online gaming via the sexbox & i think once they get into it they will be more tempted to get big dough out to set themselves up for PC online gaming.
This could all change if Live is sorted out with dedi servers & higher player counts & i haven't a clue if that is being thought of for the future or whether they will just run on like this.
In my opinion the battle could still go either way but unless Live is sorted out it will Never compare to online gaming on a PC.

Rumor does not add more weight tho as that could happen at anytime by any person to any game.

Most of the games that don't make it to the PC are not worth worrying about the avg age of a consoler is younger & will be easier to please.

There have been more games coming out for the consoles since the Saga Genesis, consoles purpose is for games & would be strange if the PC had more.

what game would you say is A+++?

Probably quake 4/AOE3.

We all know how anti-Valve you are, after the constant Portal bashing. ;):D

I'm not anti valve, They just make the same old crap over and over again. But they take out the fun bits and add sauce or episode 1/2 at the end. Portal was an attempt at trying to be cool and indie but it failed, terribly. I think it's acutally suppose to up the female ratio on steam with the voice and "fun" puzzles. The best bit of that game was when you put that eye thing down that hole and that thing exploded and those credits rolled. I had to turn the sound off because that song was another attempt at valve tying to be something there not.

Still hasn't said what the last A+++ games was :/

Sorry, Your quite impatient.
