You want to mod a car over say a two year spell. It needs to hold your attention.

What's your blank canvass?

My current car. If this is cheating, and I'll assume we cant pick silly stuff like M5's, then I think it would need to be Jap - probably an Evo of some description.

Actually no - I would buy an R34 Skyline GT-S, make it look like a modified GT-R, and sort the interior out.

Makes no real difference really, you'll spend the same amount of money and make the same amount of progress on anything really. The only restriction is with something which is either so new or so good that modding it is hugely expensive.

Absolutely not - some cars are a real pain for modifications becuase everything is so expensive.

Give a Scooby driver a grand and he can do much with it. Give me a grand and I could just about afford a half decent exhuast :(

Thats why if I was buying a car purely for modding fun it'd be Japanese and have a turbo.

Money no object?

'69 Dodge Charger. Built up with XV Motorsports chassis bits, a Keith Black aluminium block Hemi, Gear Vendors 'box, reasonably tall Dana 60 axle, 15in Vectors, tan Legendary interior and General Lee warpaint. Everything done would just add up to more fun along the way, right up until it reached critical mass as a General Lee that would out-corner and out-run 99% of what you'd come across.

***edit***

If we bring budgets into the equation - a beat-up GM or Ford sedan/wagon of some description, to which I'd add a reasonably hot motor. And nothing else. I'd consider that something that would hold my attention. With a bit more budget, change the GM/Ford for Mopar. Any more, and we look at muscle cars rather than hopping up sedans and station wagons.

I would say another Mx5 but now i've done it i doubt it would last as long.

So i'm going to say my next project, One of the last 944 S2's

* Not a money no object scenario.

Out of interest, why? E30 M3's are getting on a bit now and by far the best way to enjoy one is standard. It's certainly not a good base for modifications for 2 years - what would you do to it and why? It's a classic now, you don't put phat rims on an E-Type Jag so why would you do it to an E30 M3?

I think some people are just listing their favourite cars and not reading the question properly.

Of course but what I mean is for modding on those cars you will just buy fewer mods but get more pleasure from each. With that logic the best car to mod is something which is dirt cheap to start with, you'd do more things to it purely because it's cheaper to do.

See, now that is why I'd go for a 325i Sport I think. I'd not be ruining a rare classic, and can still get the handling sorted to be pretty precise and "fun" for track use.

honestly, i'd stick with a quattro.
20v aby engine, dialynx short wheelbase conversion, mucho engine work etc

only becuase if i had an original quattro sport it'd be blashphemy to mess with it:p

A pristine e30 318iS

edit: There is lots of scope for modifications, and I'm getting tempted to keep mine when the 530 goes and play with the engine :D

I'd have to go for something like a MK1 golf, but as they're getting on a bit, probably a Ford Ka...they're a hoot to drive as standard and stick a zetec turbo or puma engine under the bonnet with some decent brakes and it'd be immensely quick aswell as fun!

I'd get it repainted white with the //M stripes ( http://www.worldofstock.com/slides/TRC1563.jpg ), and if this is assuming I have any money, then it'd get some Moseley mods.

Probably the extent ;)

For one for "not ruining a classic" then I wouldn't mind a 205 rallye (first version). Better carb, some rally spotlights on the front and other smaller mods maybe.

I'd say the/a scoob, or anything japanese with a turbo. Gains can be made bit by bit depending on how much you want to spend at any given time. More improvements, constant difference of drive, fun all the time :)
