splashed out on an 3870x2 2day and in every game its crashing :( tried driver cleaner i have a good enough psu tried 8.1 and 8.2 drivers and hotfix etc

what could be the problem shall i rma it ?

yeah wish i hadnt, well is a reinstall gunna help even tho i did a driver clean and my 2 other cards work fine 6600gt and 8800gts

sounds like its overheating for some reason, do some stress testing and monitor the temps. It's meant to be a great card so it's worth finding out what's wrong. Definitely faster than a GTS.

Dude, does the screen suddenly turn to one colour? It's called artifacting, where the card for some reason just displays nothing. My 3870X2 did it and I rma'd it just today. Send it back and get a new one because this card is a beast when it gets moving. Check the specs of my rig. With that I was pushing 500+ fps in CSS when I upped fps_max to 600... seriously, don't wuss out and go for the soft option of a different card, just get it replaced and enjoy the fastest card on the present market.

did you uninstall your nvidia drivers before installing the ATI drivers? they might be causing problems if they are still installed.

Persevere with the 3870X2 mate, I did and its starting to pay off. As said, run some stress test apps and monitor the temps, it sounds like overheating, from what I've seen, these run on the toasty side anyway. When installing the drivers, do it safe mode and reboot after every uninstal/reinstal, and I ran driver cleaner umpteen times to ensure any remnants of the nvidia drivers was removed. I went from an 8800GTS 512 to this card, and that was overclocked to 775/1750/950, and this card beats it at stock, albeit in "06". If it is borked, then just rma and wait for the replacement., deffo worth it.:)

yeah .... I went from a 8800GTS 512 (MSI OC version) to the 3870x2, and the 3870x2 is leagues ahead

was playing Crysis almost all of last night - DX10 mode, most things set to Very High @ 1900x1200 apart from shadows at low, and shaders at medium and it was smooth as silk- averaging about 30fps.

Why shaders on medium? You're missing half the effects having them that low. Shadows on low are crap too.

You'd be better off running in DX9 with a custom config. :)

looks ok to me - see below

shaders has quite a hit on performance- and not sure it makes a huge difference

note frame rates - they're pretty good :) ps Volumetric on very high looks superb IMO

Shader effect is most notable on interior shots, you don't get indirect and bounced light in lower shader setting

ah -thanks

I can live with that compromise ... not indoors much ! :)

ps you also loose that nice "fog" you get too - but not much of a difference

DX10 was almost unplayable at 1900x1200 on my GTS - but on the 3870x2 its silky smooth -I'm genuinely impressed

for DX9 titles, the 3870x2 gives sometimes almost free FSAA too :) - Lock-on on my GTS was a no-no with more than x2 @ 1900x1200, on the x2 x8 and even x16 are fine :)

what make is the card because i have the Asus one and you need to use drivers on cd but just the drivers because there is a lot of stuff on it but this can causes issues.
I had it only crash once in Crysis at start level, but i think it is excellent card.
it is quiter than my 2900xt which is good

Custom PC's review of this card - using Catalyst 8.1 driver.

"ATI had a good chance to have the fastest graphics card out there with the 3870X2 , but it's blown this oppertunity with poor driver support. If the driver improves enough to unlock the latent power, this card has the potential to be amazing. As it is, the Radeon HD3870X2 is just a huge circuitboard that eats loads of power, but can't convert that power into gaming performance"

Sounds familiar to me - see sli/crossfire etc
